I'm curious, who would we enjoy seeing as presenters? Who would we pair together?

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/DavidG/ David Gaillardetz

I would always be down for a Wiig/Ferrell pairing.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

No doubt! Besides Tina and Amy they were the funniest part of the gg

  • Newbourne

I wish they would do what they did a few years ago and have 5 previous winners talk about each nominee before announcing the winner. I liked how that showcased each performance allowing them all to be spotlighted before focusing on the winner.

I guess the only problem with that is that the Supporting Actor nominees are all former winners themselves.

    • http://cinemaconfessions.blogspot.com Gautam

Yes, that was one of the best things Oscars have ever done. Though I don't think that's going to happen this year considering they have invited Meryl Streep, Jean Dujardin, Octavia Spencer,Christopher Plummer which means each one of them is going to present opposite sex's acting categories.

      • http://cinemaconfessions.com Gautam

Well, I take back my words. It does seem that 5 past winners are going to introduce Best Actor and Actress nominees. Soon, I expect 5 past Best Actor winners are going to be announced as presenters. I realized that when I saw Berry and Kidman in that presenters line-up. It fits in perfectly well, Kidman will talk about her best friend Watts, and Berry about Wallis - two, I am sure about. Though, I would like to see Witherspoon dance for Naomi Watts as she had proclaimed in her open letter supporting Watts' performance in Impossible.

    • Eoin Daly

With Theron, Kidman, Berry, Bullock and Witherspoon being announced they could do that for Lead Actress:

      Berry - Wallis
      Kidman - Watts
      Bullock - Chastain
      Witherspoon - Lawrence
      Theron - Riva

Interesting theory, but Theron is marked as "special appearance" while the others are not. I wouldn't mind seeing the line-up above for the best actress presentation, but maybe we should hold out until we see the best actor line-up?

Also, I bet the cast of Chicago is going to be doing a musical number or something. I'm sensing this is going to be a very, very long night with the line-up for performers and musical numbers they apparently have in place. Anyone think they will go over the 3.5 hour mark?

        • V

Maybe because it might be Streep instead of Theron? But I liked the "Five Actress Presenters for Best Actress" and "Five Actor Presenters for Best Actor" thing they did for the Slumdog Millionaire year, so am hoping it is repeated.

Sooooo pleased Adele will be performing "Skyfall", was worried they'd eschew the performances like the last few years. Norah Jones should also do a great job, and it'll be interesting to see Hugh Jackman perform (presuming he does), before sitting back down to wait for the moment he loses to Daniel Day-Lewis.

As for interesting presenters, Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon or Renner and Craig for a Bourne/Bond connection, maybe J.J. Abrams and George Lucas...

Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron? What could possibly go wrong there? Seriously though, maybe Bigelow and Affleck to riff on their snubs. Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables couple), LeVar Burton and Jamie Foxx (famous movie slaves). Anthony Hopkins/Frank Langella and Josh Brolin (movie Presidents), Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara, Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick. Just for a few...

    • Thornsy

No way they would turn down the ratings they would get from an Adele performance.

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/SirTrey/ Sir Trey

Good point, it's just that the Best Original Song category had somewhat felt like the redheaded stepchild at the Oscars lately...no performances in the last few years, the actual artists only showed up half of the time even when they did perform, and then last year's two-nominee fiasco. But Adele finally bringing one home for Bond could be very gratifying, and yeah her alone will help the ratings.

    • Ur mom

Jeremy Renner is presenting with his Avengers co-stars.
Like last year, the cast of Bridesmaids presented together.

Jackman and Chastain were fun on Leno the other night. They would make a great pair of nominees to do something not related to their own categories.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Manu/ Manu

One can only wonder what making a "special appearance" means. Perhaps they will be featured in the musical tribute or something? I'm sensing the 24th will be a very long night.

  • Milla

Ok so why Marion Cotillard didn't present anything this award season? She was a major this year.

    • Milla

      *a major figure

  • Newbourne

How is this the complete list?

  • Netshopp

    Luise Rainer
    Olivia DeHavilland
    Joan Fontaine

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/navaneethks/ navaneethks

Do we know the order of the awards? or is it different every year?

    • Gautam

They like to kickstart with one of the major categories, more often than not with Supporting Actor/Actress. Then they move to technical stuff, give away the Shorts somewhere in between, and end with Director, Actor, Actress, and Film.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

also, they often have the previous year's winner actor presenting to actress and visa versa

  • Mon-Star

The three actors who played The Three Stooges ought to present the short films, while in character and makeup..

Really hope Everybody Needs A Best Friend wins over Skyfall for best song. I don't even see why Skyfall was nominated, it was a terrible song. I'm also rooting for Everybody Needs A Best Friend because it comes from Ted which was my favourite movie of last year.

  • Kathy

    Anyone with KEANU REEVES!!!!!

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

    Ewwww,, Kristen Stewart!!!

  • Lily

I really wish that Will Ferrell were presenting an award because he always makes me laugh in whatever he does. One of my coworkers walked into my office at DISH one day and showed me a video of Ferrell pretending to be security at a basketball game, and I almost fell over laughing! Even though he won’t be there, I’m still going to watch the Oscars because I think that Seth MacFarlane can be funny. I already have a timer set on my DISH Hopper to record the awards ceremony, and since it can hold up to 1,250 SD or 450 HD hours I know that I can keep this year’s Oscars saved for a long time without fear of needing to delete them to make more recording room.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

Ferrell is one of my favs as well. They should get more snl alums to present at all awards shows. Most likely, the academy wouldnt trust their add lib styles. But the globes and sags were awesome because of them. At least those guys were the highlights for me.
Lily, are you a sales rep for DISH?!!! You must be good because now I want to get that damn hopper!

Can we be looking a repeat of the 5 Best Actor winners (Dujardin, Hoffman, Nicholson, Douglas, Foxx) and 5 Best Actress winners (Berry, Bullock, Kidman, Streep and Witherspoon) presenting?

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

Yes, I was thinking the same thing

  • SGB

I hope the Oscar producers don't repeat the 2009 show's acting presentation. Having butchered the long standing tradition of the previous year's acting winners was one of the worst things they did. How great would it have been to see the great Marion Cotillard present Sean Penn an Oscar or how bittersweet for Javier Bardem to give his love Penelope Cruz an Oscar. Thank goodness the last three years the producers got back to the beloved tradition. Let's hope with the announcement of past Best Actress winners this is not what they have in store again.

  • Rita

Renee Zellweger seemed to have a problem with her eyes - Was she high or drunk?
