I'm happy about Slumdog Millionaire. I thought that was a great film.

And, I really like Kate Winslet. She was great in Revolutionary Road (I haven't gotten around to seeing Reader yet), but it seemed like she never wanted to get off that stage. I thought they were supposed to have time limits for this.

And I certainly would not want to be the guy to tell Mickey Rourke to wrap it up.

And one more thing. Sally Hawkins needs to eat something!

hey BRAD: I know you've said your predictions for the Contenders section are based on buzz, awards, etc., etc., but…after ALL the awards (and, one would think, buzz) that a film like "Slumdog Millionaire" has gotten, shouldn't it be in the number one slot for the Oscars? And what about Kate Winslet? Shouldn't she now at least be in the top five contenders for supporting actress?

C'mooon, Brad! Your predictions in that area are beginning to look as safe and as generalized as the daily horoscopes! Time to show some cojones! You're starting to read like Anne Landers! (And yes, I may have had too much coffee).

Seriously: what up with doz predictions? I mean, Taraji P. Henson, Marisa Tomei and
Rosemarie Dewitt are STILL better bets than Winslet for the Oscar nomination? No way! (Have you seen the new shots of Kate in "Vanity Fair"? She's got _my_ vote — twice now!)

@Dt Shindler: Well, you realize it has been about a week-and-a-half since I updated those. Winslet wasn't a serious contender for Supporting Actress until the last couple of weeks. Cut me a little slack here.

Also, I may move Slumdog into #1 and I may not… Just wait, I have some things to show you and I have updated predictions coming… gimme a little time… the Globes just ended.

  5. I´m really happy with Colin, Kate, Mickey and Vicky Christina Barcelona. Winslet was in the leading race not expectet because of the big buzz around Meryl & Hathaway but she deserves it.

kate winslet racked up tonight and she looked sexy doing it. im glad slumdog millionaire won alot of awards and that heath ledger was honored properly!

  7. Khem

Slumdog Millionaire. I thought that was a great film.

  8. adu

I am really happy for Rourke and Winslet. Although Slumdog remains highly overrated for me.

Horray for Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet – you've earned it; however, it may be the only hardware Winslet picks up this year. Not so sure about Slumdog – Button seems more like a film that the Academy will go for (or possibly Doubt).

I feel bad for Clint Eastwood, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Frank Langella & Sean Penn – without the presence of Mickey Rourke, Best Actor would be wide open. Oh well, I'm sure there are more great performances left in all of these fine thespians (even you, Clint "Dirty Harry" Eastwood).

Too bad it's got such a misleading title. This is such a great, fun, and entertaining film.
I would have liked to seen Brendan Gleason win but any Globe for this movie is awesome in my book.
And Ralph Fiennes should have gotten a nod as well.

When Darren Aranofsky flicked off Mickey Rourke, I was almost in tears laughing…and Mick himself said SOB, and to top it off, the producer dropped the F-Bomb, but was bleeped out. That and the Heath Ledger, Rourke, the Boss, and Collin Farrel winning made it an entertaining night!

  12. Phobia

I did not expect True Blood to win anything, but I am so happy to see Anna Paquin win an award. And 30 Rock is amazing, and deserved every award. But, as far as movies go, I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire yet. Guess I really should now. And, I am sorry to say, But I am getting kind of sick of Clint Eastwood. I still can't believe that Gran Torino is first in Box Office this week.

BRAD: Man up! Growing old and updating internet forums aint for sissies. (You may also wanna take most of my comments with a grain — or shaker — of salt). Now quit yer cryin and get to work.

I was very impressed this year, especially with Kate Winslet's nominations and wins. I am also wierdly happy for Mickey Rourke, despite the fact that I wasn't rooting for him to win. However, did anyone notice how thin Sally Hawkins was? I don't mean to be one of those people who brings up actress' body issues, but she really looked sickly thin. Scary, anorexic thin. I love her. I felt horrible when I saw that. Other than that, the awards were a fun night. Can't wait for the Oscars.

  15. here i thought Mickey Rourke would never show up in public again, and there he was, winning big at the Golden Globes
