Columbia Pictures has released the first look at the new costume Andrew Garfield will be wearing as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and, outside of a few subtle differences and those big ol' peepers, it really doesn't look all that different. But hey, it's a big deal right?

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

You can check out the full-sized look at the new costume directly below.

  • WEIRD!

So from the looks of it they are going from slightly moody, emo, dark toned Amazing Spider-Man...to a brightly colored, cartoon looking sequel. That makes sense.

Brad, off topic but for the last week or so everytime i navigate to a page on the site a massive Hansel & Gretel trailer/advert pops up taking over the whole screen. It's quite annoying (moreso considering the movie!) Hopefully the donation button comes soon so I can donate and we can get rid of the annoying popups!!

    • Carlos

Agreed. The Hansel and Gretel advert is to big and too frequent, as in appears every time I click on anything on this site. I understand that movie bloggers gotta eat too, but come on, dude.

The new costume looks to be much more in line with Raimi's versions. I will say this though, it's quite possibly the most accurate in relation to the comics... They got the eyes right this time.

TAS was anything but amazing, but I didn't mind it. Here's hoping to a fun sequel with some more substance than the original.

Dammit, Brad, now I'm thinking of a Red Riding Hood/TASM crossover, with Garfield's Spider-Man instead of Seyfried. It would be interestingly terrible, I'm sure.

  • Roger

I find it very different from the first costume, much more accurate to how he looks in the comics.

I thought the last suit was pretty cool (like that darker shade). I any case, I am quite excited for the sequel; pretty solid cast...just hope they dont get carried away with a love triangle scenario.

I don't really like the new suit to be honest.

  • V

I love the new suit! Spider-Man is one of the only superheroes who captures the joy and endless possibilities of youth (at least in the comics), and while the first movie was serviceable, it failed to capture the right tone and was too dark and miserable. Sure there are great tragedies in Peter's life but they only have a greater effect when they are set in between the lighter moments. This suit perfectly captures the "fun" essence of Spidey unlike the suit from the first film.

Also, as mentioned before, this is the most faithful look to the comics, so far.

I love this new costume; all of the improvements definitely make me excited for what’s in store for this sequel. I am so glad that during the wait to see more, I can watch everything Spider-Man using Blockbuster @Home from DISH. With how busy my work schedule is at DISH, I appreciate the convenience of quickly updating my queue with the movies I want to watch. I also love that if I forget to send back a Spider-Man movie, I don’t have to wait, with the convenience of in store exchanges. This movie is definitely stepping things up, and I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Better suit = better movie? We can only hope. (For the record: I didn't dislike The Amazing Spider-Man but it wasn't a fantastic movie by any stretch)

  • Viral

I happen to be in the minority who seems to have loved Webb's version! i thought Garfield was a major upgrade from Tobey! and while I didn't grow up reading comics and do not understand what difference the suit design makes I am eagerly anticipating the sequel! my only wish is that Foxx is a better villain than the lizard

  • V

Actually the majority do think Garfield and Stone were far better than Maguire and Dunst. It was the poorly developed plot and villain which left people unsatisfied. Hopefully Foxx and Giamatti's characters are far superior.

  • Paul

Um...why does it look like the Sam Raimi suit? I thought we were past that terrible franchise. This is Amazing Spider Man, what are they doing? At least they seem to have Mary Jane and Harry right this time (hopefully no whining nonsense), though we have yet to see the vision of Electro. I really hope the whole Rhino thing is serious too, I have high hopes for this film, but the suit is just ok.

  • AJ

The new suit looks like a massive improvement to me.

  • Amazing

Hey all, I feel like I'm the only one who likes the first Amazing Spiderman suit. To me it just worked (Darker more attitude emotional bases theme going on?). I love the comic depiction of Spidy but in the COMICS!!!! Someone stated that this new suit harps back to the days of Sam's films, shame thought we were past that as well... I'm all for the bright colours and flamboyant costumes in the Comics, but I liked the new style Comic Films were taking. As in darker grittier. More adult theme to them. They are all doing it, Dark Knight, the New Superman etc. This to me fits so well in the present economic climate, Yeah back in the 60's when everyone was wearing brighter colours than the sun. I don't know? I guess my point is I find it hard to take the visuals of this suit depiction seriously? How can you have a serious theme or deep emotional twist to the film and then have a Halloween costume Spiderman jump out and be taken seriously.

Another thing? If Marvel has demanded Spidy to have huge white eyes, does that mean Electro will have a giant yellow starfish on his head? Wouldn't want to upset any more "true" fans by missing that one out. Wile they are at it why don't they have Spidy's eyes change size when he is shocked or angry? Or better yet if you want to me that picky just read the Comic?

Actually, I see no reason why the suit should be changed because the first amazing spider man suit is the best spidey suit ever. Kudos to those that designed it.

  • Franci456

I like both of them. It's just something about them. But my favorite is the new one

  • Bob

Although the suit looks more accurate to the comic I don't like the way they're going from darker and grittier to a cartoonish looking suit I personally preferred the old one hope the movie's gonna be good though
