Collider spoke with Zack Snyder and his wife Debbie at the 34th Annual Saturn Awards and had a chance to ask them a series of questions regarding Watchmen’s presence at the 2008 Comic Con and regarding footage, we all know they recently screened some footage (some 20 minutes worth), but we also knew we weren’t going to get that at Comic Con and I actually expect something more like 3 minutes just as they did with 300.
One thing that seems to be a concern, of course, is the fact that the footage will appear on YouTube and the need to be selective in what they show. “It’s a given it’s going to show up on YouTube so I think we have to prepare for that… It’s a couple minutes,” Debbie said, to which Zack continued, “We’re gonna show some cool stuff.” All fans will be seeing a little something come the release of The Dark Knight as both Zack and Debbie all but confirmed the first trailer will be seen attached to the release of that film on July 18.
Zack also was guarded against confirming that Nite Owl’s ship will be at the convention saying, “It would be crazy if that were to happen… It’s expensive to bring props… large props, but uh… you know, if the fans want to see something cool, sometimes you have to just bite the bullet.”
Finally, he addressed the issues regarding the film’s length, which sounds like may be hovering just over three hours and the battles he is having with the suits regarding an R-rated comic book film running that long. However, fans will certainly get more than their fill on DVD as the Snyder says, “The DVD with ‘The Black Freighter’ and everything could be something like 3:30 or something like that. It could be longer, I don’t know.” He says this as Debbie points upward in the background leading us to believe it will be considerably longer than even Zack may be saying.
