Peter Jackson Confirmed for Comic-Con While ‘Avatar’ May be In Attendance

Brooks Barnes at The New York Times has revealed Peter Jackson will make his first ever San Diego Comic Con appearance at the end of July in support of his upcoming production District 9, which is directed by Neill Blomkamp. Jackson was editing King Kong when the convention came around in 2005 and he never made it for any of the Lord of the Rings installments, but his appearance this year should be well met.

Along with producing District 9 a twist on the age-old alien invasion story, Jackson will release The Lovely Bones later this year through Paramount and is currently working on the scripts for The Hobbit and its sequel with director Guillermo del Toro.

Barnes also notes 20th Century Fox is currently considering whether or not to screen footage of James Cameron’s hotly anticipated return to cinema with Avatar. The film has been highly touted as an immersive 3-D experience and I am sure that is the number one concern for the studio, but early buzz for films out of the convention never hurts. Films such as Warner Bros.’s 300 and Paramount’s Iron Man received such major jolts out of the convention they quickly became some of the most anticipated films following their Con debuts.

So far, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and now District 9 are the only two movies confirmed for the convention, which I will be covering from July 23-26, but I fully expect films such as Iron Man 2, The Last Airbender and G.I. Joe to have a major influence on this year’s convention.

Stay tuned for more from the San Diego Comic Con as we get closer to the convention and be sure to bookmark my official Comic Con Section for all the updates once coverage begins.

Summit Announces ‘New Moon’ Will be At Comic Con on Thursday, July 23

Summit Entertainment has announced the first movie to be promoted at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con will be The Twilight Saga: New Moon in what I assume will be Hall H on Thursday, July 23, the first day of the convention. Below is the following note sent from the studio.

On Thursday, July 23, Summit Entertainment will hold a panel for The Twilight Saga: New Moon at Comic-Con International in San Diego, California. Come see our stars and exclusive new footage for The Twilight Saga: New Moon — there may be even be a surprise or two in store!

Tickets to Comic-con are selling out fast, so we recommend you get your Thursday tickets soon so you can have access to our panel. Unfortunately, the 4-day passes are already sold out, but the Thursday single-day passes are available, albeit in a limited quantity. Tickets can be purchased on the official Comic-Con website.

I will be in attendance at the event and this will be the page to check for all Comic Con events. Comic Con takes place at the San Diego Convention Center and this year will run from July 23 - 26. Stay tuned as I will have all the updated information as it is announced.

‘Wolverine’ Footage To Be Shown Thursday

IESB reports it is 100% confirmed that Fox will indeed preview Wolverine at Comic Con on Thursday, July 24 at 11:30 AM in Hall H. Until now it had been assumed there wouldn’t be any footage from the X-Men spin-off just as it was confirmed for me yesterday there won’t be any Dragonball goodies for fans. However, it seems Fox wised up or had planned all along to bring Logan to Comic Con and we will have the full report tomorrow.

Looks Like It’s ‘Friday the 13th’ Footage, not Trailer

Bloody Disgusting is now reporting Warner Bros. will be unveiling a couple of minutes of footage from the upcoming remake of Friday the 13th instead of a trailer, which was earlier reported.

The Friday the 13th panel is Sunday, July 27 in Room 20 at 1:00 PM.

Unfortunately I will be landing in Seattle around that time.

Comic Con Preview from EW and a Snippet of Our Sked

At the bottom of this post is a look at the cover for Entertainment Weekly’s Comic Con preview issue, which basically boils down to a whole bunch of new pictures we haven’t seen before, all of which can be seen on their website right here.

Hopefully more comes out of this year’s Con than just a few pictures sent out by publicists such as say… some footage from each film that manages to impress. The Watchmen trailer was a nice start, but hopefully they bring a couple of extra minutes to the Con to give us at least a 4-5 minute taste of what to expect and how the dialogue and story will work its way into Zack Snyder’s adaptation.
