Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley in the International Trailer for 'London Boulevard'

When will this arrive in the States?

Well, that answers the question as to why The Departed scripter William Monahan's London Boulevard has taken so long to get to the big screen. The just released international trailer for the film is basically selling a so-so underworld gangster flick that's light around the edges with a bit of a dark undercurrent. It looks like it's one of those films that's not too bad, not too good, just about middle ground and good for a Netflix Instant Play, but not exactly something a major distributor is going to jump on, hence the reason it doesn't have a domestic distributor yet. Hell, it was still in post as of September 20 and that was five months after GK Films said it was in "the final stages of post production."

London Boulevard stars Colin Farrell will as a South London criminal who, after release from prison, tries to give up the gangster life by becoming a handyman for a reclusive young actress (Knightley). The film co-stars Ray Winstone, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Matt King, Stephen Graham, Eddie Marsan, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Ben Chaplin, Sanjeev Baskhar and Ophelia Lovibond and is currently set for a November 26 release in the UK, but a domestic release isn't so clear.

Recently GK Films head honcho Graham King teamed with former Apparition leader Bob Berney and President of GK Films, Peter Schlessel, to form FilmDistrict, a multi-faceted acquisition, distribution, production, and financing company. At the time of creation it was unclear as to whether this new arm would actually release London Boulevard in the States along with another up-in-the-air title, Johnny Depp's The Rum Diary. Signs point to both films being released next year, but there's no official confirmation.

Either way, the film must be completed on some level to now have a trailer and an international release date. Give the preview a watch below and let me know your impression in the comments.

Nice, but The Rum Diary is more anticipated

I don't care for The Rum Diary. I anticipate this one much more. Since In Bruges, I have vowed to watch anything Colin Farrell does.

    Looks incredible!

How does this not look incredible? The trailer has a really interesting visual style, and the chemistry between Keira and Colin looks great. And having read the script, I can guarantee you the film will have a lot of dark elements with a probing social commentary.

There are directors who take a long time in post (hello, Malick) and maybe Monahan is just as nit-picky. I'm disappointed the film probably won't get an awards run, but maybe if it does very well in the UK it will get a later release in the US next year. And Collider posted an article that said Film District WILL be the distributor for the film.

I really wish Knightley would stop doing period pieces, because she is absolutely one of my favorite actresses when she's doing modern roles.

I would watch Colin Farrell reading a phone book. The guy is incredibly underated.

    What happened to Apparition?

I was worried at the beginning of this article when you said it didn't look like anything special. This looks friggin awesome! Some great dialogue in the trailer and I'm a Colin Farrell fan for life. Plus the rumored February release date doesn't get me down too much because In Bruges was also released in February and was one of the best movies of 2008.

I once watched Colin Farrell in a phone BOOTH.

This kinda looks like Gangster No. 1, in some ways. Either way, I'm siked to see it.

This looks to me like it could be very funny (in a brutal kind of way, which is the reputation of the book). Brad, I'm beginning to think you don't get Brit humour.

I was always under the impression that this was a co-lead thing with Knightley and Farrell. Didn't expect this to truly and completely be the Colin Farrell show. Knightley's part looks small. Trailer looks like a fun gangster romp, but nothing more. So we'll see.

Poor trailer. Farrell's South London accent is way off the mark and God only knows why the Americans think that Knightley is a good actress because she's largely a joke here in the UK.
