Coen Brothers Remaking John Wayne's 'True Grit'… Sort of
They plan to head back to the source material
A new story out of London's Daily Mail reports Joel and Ethan Coen are set to retell the story of True Grit, the 1969 western that earned John Wayne his only Oscar win. However, the Coens won't be working from Wayne's feature as they intend to go back to Charles Portis's 1968 novel, which has a spinster recalling that, when she was 14, she set off from her family's 480-acre Arkansas farm to avenge her father's murder.
"The book recounts the girl's story," Joel told the Daily Mail. "In the John Wayne film, she was played older. We want her to be her real age – it's her story!"
Don't get too excited though as it appears the Coens won't begin work on the feature for two or three years as they are currently working on A Serious Man for Focus Features due in theaters on October 2 and will follow that up with The Yiddish Policemen's Union based on Michael Chabon's book.
Scott Rudin who worked with the Coens on No Country for Old Men will be producing both the True Grit feature as well as Yiddish Policemen.

I remember hearing from them that they had an idea for a super bloody spaghetti western. I've never seen True Grit but I can assume it's not a spaghetti western, unless they plan to really go away from that movie.
I guess we'll see.
True Grit. Not a bad show, some good lines. Robert Duvall as Ned Pepper, a young Dennis Hopper who gets his alright.
Don't try watching Rooster Cogburn and the Lady, what a waste.
True Grit by the Coens? Magic. Add Val Kilmer for the part of Rooster Cogburn and you have a winner!
true grit and rooster cogburn are classic american movies done with class and certain charisma. Leave the duke alone you cant improve upon greatness!
RIGHT ON. THE "DUKE' RULES. TODAY STILL THE #1 ACTOR OF ALL TIME.
forget it……. only one John Wayne. No one can fill his shoes in anything. only one true grit. remakes are never as good as the original.
