Clooney Ready to Direct 'Leatherheads'
Football rom-com draws George's attention
I am not sure what attracted George Clooney to this pic considering it isn't political, but it is nice to see he still does have an interest in movies that aren't part of the Ocean's franchise and aren't out to make a statement as he is set to direct and star in Leatherheads for Universal Pictures.
The film is a football rom-com that has seen several incarnations beginning as a story about an aging football player who coaxes a college star to drop out and try his luck in a new professional league. The pic is now described as a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of pro football's formation in the 1920s. Clooney is said to have always been circling the project and even was close to starring way back in 1999 as a follow-up to Out of Sight.
Renée Zellweger is in negotiations to co-star as Clooney rewrites the script with production expected to begin early spring 2007.
