Production Weekly is reporting that George Clooney is close to closing a deal which will see him starring opposite Robert De Niro in the Marc Forster directed cop drama 36.

The film is a remake of the French cop saga 36 Quai des Orfevres in which two detectives heading plain-clothes divisions at Paris police headquarters go out on the quest to solve a series of armored car robberies with a promotion going to whomever catches the perpetrators. The original starred Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil as the two detectives.

The new film is being adapted to take place in New York by Dean Georgaris (The Manchurian Candidate).
