Clooney Takes on the Role of a 'Private' Assassin
Plus, his 'Goats' head to Overture's pastures
Variety is reporting George Clooney has signed on to star in A Very Private Gentleman for director Anton Corbijn who directed 2007's well received feature Control.
The film is based on the Martin Booth novel of the same name and will feature Clooney as an assassin who hides out in an idyllic Italian town before carrying out a final assignment. He resists his usual aversion to human interaction, and his friendships and romantic entanglements complicate his mission.
Focus Features is set to distribute the film which is already set to shoot this fall in Italy from a script penned by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later).
In other Clooney news, his upcoming war comedy Men Who Stare at Goats, which co-stars Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges and was directed by Grant Heslov, has been picked up by Overture Films for domestic distribution.
Goats is an adaptation of Jon Ronson's nonfiction book and will feature McGregor as a journalist who stumbles upon an ex-member (Clooney) of a secret U.S. Army unit that used paranormal tactics.

Loved Anton Corbijn's film, "Control." But I'm not loving this casting. Wouldn't a relatively obscure but talented actor be better for this story? Probably. There are plenty of them around. But they're going for the star power, I see. Clooney is undoubtedly talented and charming but, subtle? Naw, I don't think so. Even when being laid back he's effusive. It's his presence. When I think of this part I think of Richard Jenkins in, "The Visitor." Not actually Richard Jenkins, just that kind of low key but mulitidimensional performance. Ah well.
