When Freder sees a machine go over the boiling point he gets disoriented and instead of seeing reality he sees the workers being fed into the machine, which now looks like a monster. He refers to the monster as Moloch. In biblical terms, Moloch was one of the idols worshipped by the Israelites, to which they sacrificed children. |
