Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Adds Burstyn, Chalamet and Foy

A Homeland and Twilight star join the cast

Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar has just added three new names in Ellen Burstyn, Timothée Chalamet ("Homeland") Mackenzie Foy (pictured) who will be seen in The Conjuring this weekend and had her break-out start in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 as Renesmee.

Their roles in the project are unknown, but they join a cast that already includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Bill Irwin and Michael Caine.

Interstellar is set for a November 7, 2014 release and involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. Like Inception, the story is said to be "complex and multi-layered". [The Wrap]

Having enjoyed Twilight BDP2 (oops) and having just seen The Conjuring tonight, I'm ashamed I didn't even recognize Mackenzie Foy!

Any Interstellar news is article worthy Brad, you know what the masses want!

Burstyn and Nolan together?! Is it November 2014 yet?

  • G-Man

Oh why not just add an Oscar-winning (multiple nominated) actress?

This has gotta start shooting soon!

  • Hudsucker

The cast in this just keeps getting bigger and better.

  • andyluvsfilms

i need to get into the Casting Agent business, that's where the money is

  • Winchester

Maybe Burstyn and Caine will play old versions of two other cast members. Either way, November 2014 is a looooooong way off. Too far off to think about this in any greater detail. Especially as it'll probably be kept under wraps for a while to come.

    • Silrian

How would Caine's younger version be? Nolan hasn't cast a male british lead and I doubt he'll try to get Caine speaking American.

I'm interested in the fact he seems to go for an almost new cast for this film (only Caine and Hathaway make a return so far).

      • andyluvsfilms

Caine can barely speak English ha!

      • Winchester

He might, Caine's done American accents before (not necessarily well...............but still he's given them a go).

It was just a thought that occurred to me as he and Burstyn are age appropriate and the film is gonna deal with wormholes/time travel and that rather automatically leads to thoughts of multiple versions of characters/time frames etc.

I was really just spinning a thought.

        • Silrian

Yeah I see your point. Guess Nolan might pop anything out of his filmmaker's hat.:)

I still think Matt McC is gonna play Nolan's Han Solo. I know it's cheap to make such flat parallels, but it's just a funny little thought like yours.

I'm most excited for Chastain and Affleck in this film, I think Nolan could get fantastic performances out of those two.

          • Winchester

The cast is good, so I guess we'll see in time.

    • Ducard

That's a cool thought. I can definitely imagine Caine/Conaughey & Burstyn/want to know about this movie.

      • Ducard

        I meant Burstyn/Chastain.

  • Corbin

    Whoa- that's a great cast.

  • navaneethks

I am trying not to skyrocket my expectations for this movie. But with this kind of cast and crew news it's hard to keep normal expectations.

  • Newbourne

Why hasn't he casted Cillian Murphy yet?!

    • Silrian

      ^ This.

    • Chris138

Wally Pfister got to him first.

      • Silrian

Friggin hell that's true, those schedules probably collide. Damn.

*Thinks of funny b****fights between Pfister and Nolan over getting to Murphy first*

Nolanites, we'll have two Christmases next year

  • Fox

Burstyn, Chalamet and Foy. Sounds like a law firm.

I don't think I'm as crazy about Nolan as most people. Inception was just okay, so that comparison doesn't do much for me.

The Wrap reports that John Lithgow has also been added to the cast...
