Charlotte Gainsbourg is Caught In a Manwich in New Picture from 'Nymphomaniac'

Im really hoping this one ends up in Cannes

It looks as if I might not be able to afford a trip to the Cannes Film Festival this year, but I am really hoping Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac makes it into the line-up just so I can sit back and watch the sparks fly. If there's any director that's been able to provoke a reaction on the worldwide stage it's von Trier and with an explicit, NC-17 film on the horizon you better believe people will have something to say.

Today a new image (via The Playlist) from the upcoming feature has arrived featuring the film's star, Charlotte Gainsbourg, doing what I assume her character does best.

Gainsbourg stars as Joe, and the story is described as focusing on her erotic journey from birth to the age of 50. On a cold winter's evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan SkarsgÄrd), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multifaceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.

Along with Gainsbourg and Skarsgard, the film co-stars Stacy Martin (as young Joe), Shia Labeouf, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Mia Goth, Jens Albinus, Severin von Hoensbroech, Peter Gilberg Cotton, Nicolas Bro, Tabea Tarbiat, Janine Romanowski, Jesper Christensen, Tania Carlin, Felicity Gilbert and Shanti Roney.

If you missed the previously released picture from the film, you can find that here.

I'm interested to see whether the NC-17 cut will just be a gratuitous mess. I'm not sure whether von Trier actually believes in his art or whether he just films freaky stuff for the hell of it.

  2. theJackal says:

This looks like a very expensive porno, but of course it can't be because it's directed by Lars Von Triers. However, looks can be deceiving. Many who saw The Unbearable Lightness of Being (many moons ago) felt the same about its content. I fully embrace directors boldly going into NC-17 territory; however, Von Tiers can be graphic for the sake if being graphic at times. The opening scene of Antichrist is a perfect example. What was gained by showing full on penetration while a baby accidentally falls out the window (unseen of course)? I look forward to see Nymphomaniac, if only to see what all the fuss is about, and to find if a great film lurks beneath the racy subject matter.

    Thems the facts

  3. Lewis says:

Lars Von Trier has lost his marbles. Hasn't made a great film since Breaking the Waves. All his films since, especially in the last 5 years or so, have been cold, clinical, detached, and quite boring examinations into the psyches of people who are entirely unlikable. Somebody give this guy a lobotomy.

Sorry to hear you are not going to Cannes. Do you want me to go in your place? I live in London and I write reviews as well.

  5. Lex_Luthor says:

I wouldn't mind seeing some skinny white chick railed by a couple of black dudes.
Then again I can watch this free all day long on the internet.
    This movie gets a pass.
