Charlie Kaufman's Next is 'Synecdoche, New York'
A great writer finally has some work we can talk about
Production Weekly first reported on this one in August of 2006, but apparently it is finally moving as Synecdoche, New York from Oscar-winning scripter Charlie Kaufman has begun pre-production. Plans are set for a ten week shoot beginning May 21 in New York.
Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to star in the film as Caden, a theater director who thinks he’s dying, and ambitiously attempts to put on a play by creating a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse. Catherine Keener is set to play his first wife, Michelle Williams will play his second wife, Samantha Morton will appear as Hazel, his sometime lover and Tilda Swinton will portray Keener’s best friend and the dubious mentor to the daughter of Hoffman and Keener’s characters.
On top of writing the original screenplay, Kaufman will also be making his directorial debut on the feature. Oh, and "Synecdoche" is pronounced – snick-do-che.
