Rutger Hauer continues to create a broad range of memorable characters, starring in over fifty-two films to date. As the intelligent yet brutal replicant in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner," the homeless man in Ermanno Olmi's "The Legend of the Holy Drinker," the brave underground fighter in "Soldier of Orange," or the dark-hearted menace in "The Hitcher," Hauer is a powerful actor who reveals beauty and tragedy in all of the characters he portrays.

In 1973, Hauer burst onto the European film scene in Paul Verhoeven's "Turkish Delight." Based on a controversial novel by Dutch novelist Jan Wolkers, the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film in 1979. Hauer also starred in "Spetters," "Keetje Tippel," "Flesh and Blood" and "Soldier of Orange," which brought the actor international recognition.

In 1980, Hauer starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in "Nighthawks." It was this film which brought him to the attention of American audiences. A year later he starred in the critically acclaimed role of a deadly but tragically touching android in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner." In 1982 he turned in a stunning performance as Albert Speer in "Inside The Third Reich."

In 1985, he starred in the Warner Brothers film "Ladyhawke" opposite Michelle Pfeiffer, and his performance as a homeless man in Ermanno Olmi's "The Legend of the Holy Drinker" won him the Best Actor Award at the 1988 Seattle International Film Festival. The film was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

For his role as a compassionate Russian officer in the CBS miniseries "Escape From Sobibor," he received a Golden Globe award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He starred in the HBO production of "Deadlock" and "Blind Side" which were also released theatrically worldwide. Hauer has also produced several documentaries: "Prosit Ermanno," a film based on Ermanno Olmi, the making of "The Legend of the Holy Drinker," "Who Are They?" a view of the life of a homeless man, and "Kill The Camera," a look behind the making of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Other film credits include "Blind Fury," "The Blood of Heroes," "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "A Breed Apart," "Surviving the Game," "Beans of Egypt Maine," "Mariette In Ecstacy" and TNT's "Amelia" opposite Diane Keaton. Currently, Rutger is filming a co-starring role in the NBC miniseries The Tenth Kingdom re-teaming with Hallmark Entertainment and producer Robert Halmi Sr. He also recently re-teamed with director Jennifer Warren ("Beans of Egypt, Maine") to film the independent project, "Partners in Crime and he plans to appear in the sequel to the thriller "The Hitcher," which is currently in development.
