In 2000 Nick Willing directed Jason and the Argonauts for Hallmark/NBC, starring Jason London, Dennis Hopper, Frank Langella, Olivia Williams and Derek Jacobi. In the previous year he directed Alice in Wonderland for the company. With a cast that included Miranda Richardson, Martin Short, Gene Wilder, Ben Kingsley and Whoopi Goldberg, the lavish miniseries won four Emmy Awards.

Willing directed his first feature film in 1997 for Polygram Films. Photographing Fairies starred Ben Kingsley, Toby Stephens and Emily Woof and was produced by Michele Camarda for her Kismet Film Company. The film was invited to international festivals and won several awards.

Whilst attending National Film and Television School, he directed two animated short films The Door To Door Salesman, and The Golden Grape, and two live action shorts, Roadtrip and Lifeclass which won the Golden Dragon at Krakow Film Festival.
