Catherine Hardwicke Goes from Vampires to Bird People
But they both have werewolves, but they're called Erasers
Catherine Hardwicke is ready to give everyone another chance to say how great she is even though Thirteen is her only agreed upon quality feature as The Hollywood Reporter brings word she will be directing Maximum Ride for Columbia Pictures based on a five-volume series of stories by James Patterson.
The story chronicles six teens, known as the Flock, who are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird. Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.
Don Payne, who co-wrote Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and My Super Ex-Girlfriend, will bring his excellent track record to this project and give this script a go.
Hardwicke most recently directed the fangirl-fav Twilight to a critical drumming as part of a series of a three films that didn't exactly hit home with critics including The Nativity Story and Lords of Dogtown. Her directorial debut Thirteen remains her lone critical achievement which she co-wrote with Nikki Reed.

There were five books in that series? Hmmm never knew read the first and second pretty sure that was enough for the story don't remember it needing 3 more. Sound really interested don't I?
Yes! The series is so good and entertaining. It really has the potential to be a fun movie if done properly. I hope she doesn't make this cheesy…
Whether or not it turns out to be good (I probably won't see it, having not read the books), the critics probably won't like it just because of the premise.

True but Twilight success proves it doesn't matter what critics think if there's already a rather large following, as is the case with the Maximum Ride series.
I like the books a lot. Very fast paced and entertaining. But seeing Twilight doesn't give me much hope for the way this will turn out.
How can you NOT help but make a cheesy film around that premise?
I honestly doubt this will be anything more than yet another forgettable teen fantasy flick. They're a dime a dozen, they rarely turn out well and they seem to consistently fail to recapture the magic of the books.
Oh no. Not her and not him. James Patterson has done these books so perfectly and now they're gonna ruin it. *hope not*
