Carrie Fisher In for 'Star Wars 7', Chastain as Jane to Tarzan and Sample the 'Oblivion' Score

COMMENTS

And no Monuments for Craig and a Jupiter score for Giacchino

Jessica Chastain1.) Jessica Chastain is the first name rumored for the role of Jane in the new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan to be directed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows helmer David Yates. Yates was previously said to be looking at Alexander Skarsgard ("True Blood") for the title role and now the New York Post reports Chastain "is said to be the first choice to play Jane in a new version of 'Tarzan'... In this story, the jungle boy is fully assimilated to life in London when Queen Victoria asks him to investigate troubles in the Congo." Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie penned the screenplay.

2.) This next news couldn't have come at a better time as George Clooney's The Monuments Men is included in Part Three of my 2014 Oscar Preview, which will go live shortly and I wouldn't have wanted to have the cast list wrong. The film, which recently began production in Berlin, will no longer include Daniel Craig as part of the cast. The news comes from co-star Bob Balaban's Twitter (via The Playlist) of all places where the actor wrote, "DC isn't in MM Matt Damon is." Damon was already a member of the cast so I'm not sure if his role was changed and he stepped in for Craig or what happened, but that would seem to be the case. More on this one in today's Oscar preview.

Michael Giacchino scoring Star Trek Into Darkness3.) Michael Giacchino was tweeting away yesterday as he is clearly scoring J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness based on the image you see to the right, but at the same time news has come out he will be scoring Andy and Lana Wachowski's Jupiter Ascending as well, which is currently in production with an expectation to hit theaters next year. The sci-fi feature stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean, for more on the plot click here. [Film Music Reporter]

4.) Yes, Carrie Fisher has once again told someone she will return as Princess Leia in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. This time the source is Palm Beach Illustrated and after she confirmed the casting she added the character is probably "in an intergalactic old folks' home."

5.) Finally, check out a track from the upcoming score for Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion, composed by M83 (Anthony Gonzalez and Joseph Trapanese). The film, which stars Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko, hits theaters on April 19 with the score going on sale on April 9.

I really don't like the idea of Carrie Fisher returning to Star Wars. Just write her out. She's an old, flabby drunk and just the thought of her in a golden bikini makes my skin crawl.

  2. Bertram J. Krogh says:

The plot of the new Tarzan retelling sounds ludacris. I just hope Chastain won’t attach herself to garbage, now that she is one of the most A-game actresses right now.
Actually I am a bit disappointed Daniel Craig wasn’t in The Monuments Men after all, I am lunging for a great performance from him.
Michael Giacchino news are great I guess, he is one of the best feature film composers working, in my opinion.
And lastly, I don’t really give JJ’s ass about the Carrie Fisher news.

Not that anyone cares about my opinion.

Can’t wait for part III of the Oscars 2014 preview!

  3. Dale says:

Oh no! First we learn that the wonderful Juliette Binoche is attached to a "Godzilla" remake, and now we're told the equally splendid Jessica Chastain might play Jane in a Tarzan rehash (which is certainly the right word). Shall we soon learn that Meryl Streep will sign on for a Lassie movie? "A" actresses deserve "A" movies.
