Featured above is the first photo from the set of Paramount's Captain America: The First Avenger (7/22/11) as a stuntman dons the Captain America uniform. The images come courtesy of The Daily Mail where they also have shots of agents of HYDRA, a fictional terrorist organization in the Marvel Universe. You can click here to see the rest.

The cast for the action-thriller Drive seems to be growing by the day, and today comes the news from Variety that Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men") has jumped on board. The film, based on the James Sallis novel of the same name, centers on a Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway driver in L.A.'s criminal underworld. Drive costars Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston and Oscar Isaacs. Principal photography for director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) is set to begin on September 25 in L.A.

Malin Akerman

Also from Variety, Malin Akerman (Watchmen) has signed on to star alongside Ethan Hawke in the CIA thriller The Numbers Station. The film, directed by Denmark's Kasper Barfoed, centers on a disgraced black ops agent and the woman he's assigned to protect fighting to survive a surprise attack in the middle of the Nevada desert. It carries a $10 million budget and is scheduled to begin filming in early 2011.

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) are in talks to star in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the English language debut of director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow). The story takes place 15 years after the incident at the gingerbread house, with the siblings having now evolved into witch hunting warriors. Renner reportedly spilled the beans at the Venice International Film Festival. [Kultur via Twitch]

ATO Pictures has acquired the rights to the Kevin Spacey-starrer Casino Jack, which dramatizes the story of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The film co-stars Barry Pepper, Kelly Preston, Jon Lovitz and Rachelle Lefevre. ATO is targeting a December release so it looks like they'll be taking their chances on an awards-season push for director George Hickenlooper's film, with Spacey's performance being the focal point. The film makes its festival premier on September 16 in Toronto, but Spacey has already garnered rave reviews at early private screenings. [Deadline]

Finally, here is a just released clip from Passion Play starring Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke. Brad has informed me he won't likely be able to catch this one at Toronto due to a scheduling conflict so I guess we'll have to see what others have to say about it out of the fest.

Passion Play tells the story of Nate (Rourke), a down-on-his-luck jazz trumpet player who forms a bond with Lily (Fox), a woman born with wings who has wound up as a carnival sideshow attraction. Together these two damaged souls undertake a turbulent romantic journey while trying to avoid the witty and menacing Happy (Bill Murray), a local gangster.

Cap pic Reminds me very much of the 1990 version.

Being a big Mickey Rourke fan, I'm really looking forward to Passion Play. I think it has the potential to be something special. Or atleast I really hope it will be special. :)

That clip neither proved nor disproved Megan Fox's acting talent. Hopefully a clip will come soon.

Well I gotta admit that I'm not too into the Cap costume. I hope Chris Evans wears it better and makes it seem a little less odd looking. Also, I've noticed a lot of complaints about Captain America not wearing a chainmail suit and while the complaints are understandble every comic icon is gonna need some adjustment for the big screen (e.g. Green Lantern in his own respective movie)

I imagine the stuntman's version of the costume isn't identical to the suit for the lead. Less tailored, and likely made out of different materials, so that he can more easily move and be flame retardant or otherwise protected. This guy might only be filmed at a distance or from behind.

I'm not wild about the look, but it could work on film. I really like the Hydra stuff though.

  6. Am I the only one who genuinely didn't enjoy the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film?

I really found it to be a poor adaptation that missed the heart of what made the novel great and I wasn't too fond of any performance including Rapace's.
