But this time it may be your daddy's BSG

Yesterday HitFix.com posted a speculative article saying Universal "nearing a deal with Bryan Singer to produce and possibly direct a brand-new 'Battlestar Galactica' feature film." Today, Entertainment Weekly confirmed the speculation via Universal Pictures saying Singer will take on directing and producing duties for a Battlestar Galactica movie with original series producer, Glen Larson, also aboard the project.

Singer is best known for directing the first two films in the X-Men franchise as well as The Usual Suspects and more recently the Tom Cruise starrer Valkyrie. However, things are not exactly as you may expect.

Nicole Sperling at EW says "the film is not expected to be a continuation of current popular television show that’s running on the SyFy network but will be a complete re-imagining of the sci-fi lore that was invented by Larson back in the 70s."

One interesting item HitFix's Drew McWeeny points out is a 2003 interview with Tom DeSanto talking about an earlier "Battlestar" project Singer was interested in back in 2003. You can read up on that right here.

Of course, as if that wasn't enough, people are also already speculating Singer may be approached to direct Wolverine 2 after he has expressed interest in returning to the world of the X-Men and now that Christopher McQuarrie is writing the script. McQuarrie was an uncredited contributor to the first X-Men movie, which Singer directed, as well as the lone screenwriter on Singer's breakthrough film The Usual Suspects.

As long as Singer isn't directing another Superman movie, both options sound good to me.

Let me preface this by saying I am huge BSG fan (both the original and the better one;)), I hate the idea of another Battlestar Galactica reimagining. The last one just ended! I could see a some kind of film set during the series like the upcoming The Plan but another reimagining is not a good idea.

Won't happen. Singer's been supposedly working on Logan's Run, for like, 18 years. It's not out yet either. He's one more flop from directing tv. He really lost folks a lot of money on Superman Returns, and Valkyrie performed below expectations. Of course, not being all that interesting helped.

Bryan Singer is a director. It depends on who writes Wolverine 2 to make it better than 1, not him at all. He also wastes money beyond belief (CGI Brandon Routh whenever his feet leave the ground comes to mind, as well as Valkryie's original running time versus how long it turned out), even though no one likes to talk about it. However, he should return to Superman and cover the Bizzaro Storyline ina 1 hour 45 minute movie with tons of action starring Brandon Routh. Done.

Unless DeSanto is attached it's just another example of a NON-fanboy director jacking ideas and passing them off as his own. Expect superman crap not xmen awesomeness.

However, Singer's last two successful (financially) movies were Xmen and X2: X Men United (that's the stupidest title–maybe worse than The First Avenger: Captain America). And, the question for this one is: can he do better than the guy who directed Origins did? Well, he appears to have 20/20 eyesight, and isn't a quadruple amputee. So…yeah, he could do better than that. And, then I remember Superman Returns, so his eyesight comes back into question, as well as his control of his other limbs. So…toss up!

The most recent Battlestar Galactica was far superior in Storyline then it's predecessor. Bryan Singer should have continued the X-Men Franchise because Brett Rattner ruined the 3rd X-men Movie and Bryan ruined the Superman movie.
    Imagine this…
    Bryan Singer directs X-men 3.
Warner Brothers chose Kevin Smith over Tim Burton to direct Superman.
The Current Battlestar Galactica series on SyFy ends the last episode in one of the most climactic endings which leads the audience hanging just like "Soprano;" but the writer of BSG confirms that he did that purposely, because SyFy and a major Studio signed a deal to finish the last episode with a bang!, in a 2 1/2 hour Motion Picture!.

Bryan Singer would never have been attached to do a re-imagining BSG movie.

Bryan Singer just made me his BITCH! Bring on 2011. Even if its a reboot Singer is a fan of the original Galactica so its bound to be a bit more faithful. I hope Tom DeSanto gets involved with this as well and that David Hayter isn't far behind.

Oh and Dirk. Its gotta have Dirk.
