Box-Office Wrap-Up: Nov. 3 – Nov. 5

A stunning result. It averaged $31k per screen which is unheard of. It won with 800 theaters which is kooky talk. It opens at three times as many theaters next weekend and there is just no telling what will happen. It might take over the world, and possibly the galaxy.

Result: $26.7 million (My rank: #4, $17.3m off)

It didn't perform horribly, it just couldn't withstand the teen and twenty-something audience.

Result: $20.0 million (My rank: #1, $6.5m off)

A reader rightly pointed out that Trainspotting is a better movie that involves flushing. So I will redefine my position. Flushed Away is the best flushing film with mice. I think that position is foolproof.

Result: $19.1 million (My rank: #3, $3.7m off)

A pretty nasty drop here, right around 54 percent. Every percentage point past 50 is opening weekend audience members bad mouthing the film. Was one of them you?

Result: $15.5 million (My rank: #2, $3.5m off)

This was a strong box office weekend. To put it in perspective it was the fifth strongest weekend (against prior) of the year. You can probably stump your friends with that kind of trivia.

Result: $8.0 million (My rank: #6, $3.3m off)

This was kind of a beat-down weekend for your favorite Oracle. My only solace is that no one in the universe had Borat winning.

Result: $7.7 million (My rank: #5, $2.0m off)

3.1m is a blessing considering it was against two opening weekend competitors. Besides, any of us would have taken 3.1m and not complained at all. Heck, I'd take $20.

I am pleased as pie to see this is the top ten (defying my prediction). It's the best movie on the board, you should see it too. I've been telling people to see it and now it looks like I'm entitled to some type of commission.
