It's called being dialed in. It's what Michael Jordan feels when he's against the Utah Jazz in the finals and what Kobe Bryant feels when he's yelling at his teammates. Right now, I'm there, and my predicting skills are just ducky. Well, except for M. Night related movies that is.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 8 Weeks In A Row
Didn't hit $60m did it? I still feel a bit odd about this one, as if I liked it more than I should have. Will it hold up on DVD? I'm not sold. There are some semi-dumb scenes where Norton and Liv look pensive a beat too long.
Result: 54.5 million (My rank: #1, $1.8m off)
See? It only dropped 43%. That's what strong word of mouth does for you.
Result: 34.3 million (My rank: #2, $2.7m off)
Okay, okay, I'll admit it. This performed far better than I thought. Evidently the "R Rated" marketing paid off. This will be hurting next weekend though.
Result: 30.5 million (My rank: #3, $9.5m off)
Smacked around to a 57% drop. That's what bad word of mouth will do to you.
Result: 16.4 million (My rank: #4, $1.5m off)
Crossed the $600m threshold this weekend. Talked to my pops about it – he said he doesn't dig Shia. But Shia is meant for the kids dad!
Result: 13.5 million (My rank: #5, $3.6m off)
This will be an interesting DVD case study as it's the rarely catered to female demographic. But it's not like they can release an unrated cut, can they? Hmmmm. Maybe they can.
Result: 10.1 million (My rank: #6, $0.5m off)
I underestimated the power of Iron Man whilst predicting The Strangers correctly. My first real whiff of the weekend unless you're counting M. Night against me. I bet you are. Bastard.
Result: 5.1 million (My rank: #8, $2.4m off)
Which film do you think Liv Tyler liked better? For context she was probably paid around $7m for Hulk and 38 cents for this.
Result: 4.0 million (My rank: #7, $.2m off)
Back on track! I wonder if Narnia will have a presentation at this year's Comic-Con? Or perhaps they will just have signs that say "Will work for food."
Result: 3.0 million (My rank: #9, $1.1m off)
Still, ten out of ten is no joke. You have a ton of predicting choices out there… but only one Oracle named Laremy from Seattle who's around 25 pounds overweight. Easy choice, right?
Result: 1.7 million (My rank: #10, $0.5m off)

  1. My only curiosity is how many kids under the age of 17 bought tickets to see The Incredible Hulk only to see The Happening. I know it wouldn't be anything like the amount that bought tickets to Meet the Spartans to go see Rambo, but I know it had to have happened (no pun intended).
