Hellboy 2 took me down. I'm man enough to admit that. My only joy will be when Dark Knight sends it to a healthy 54% drop next weekend.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks In A Row
This prediction feels heavy to me. I bet they come in closer to $35m on Monday because a title with "hell" in it is not going to attract the church crowd. However, it's Del Toro's biggest opening and a clear sign that he's grown the initial audience. Kudos to him.
Result: 35.8 million (My rank: #2, $9.5m off)
Interestingly enough, I underestimated this one too. It didn't face the normal 55% beating that most 4th of July films take. The general public likes this one I suppose. Or, say it with me now, the weekend was a weak one overall in terms of competition.
Result: 33.0 million (My rank: #1, $4.1m off)
Brad's theory was that they should have gotten this in way more theaters and blown out the budget on marketing. Brad's theory was right – this film could have won the weekend with a little more effort.
Result: 20.5 million (My rank: #4, $3.6m off)
Lost in the rush to crown Hellboy will be the fact that this was the lowest revenue July weekend since 2006.
Result: 18.5 million (My rank: #3, $.9m off)
Why was it so low? Meet Dave got crushed, Journey didn't get enough theaters, and Hellboy will always have limited appeal. This also might be the weekend I don't get any of my placements correct. Yay!
Result: 11.5 million (My rank: #6, $2.5m off)
I was initially bummed about losing my eleven week streak. But seeing how the general public murdered Ed Murphy this weekend I'm feeling a little better. Y'all met me halfway I suppose.
Result: 7.1 million (My rank: #7, $1.7m off)
Um? Bwahahahahahahaha. This is the most hilarious result of the year. Total destruction.
Result: 5.3 million (My rank: #5, $9.8m off)
Hey, I nailed one, and it's my old friend the Panda! Don't look now but the Panda has crossed $356 million worldwide. Not shabby for Mr. Black and co.
Result: 4.3 million (My rank: #8, $0.3m off)
I overestimated it last weekend and underestimated it this weekend. I can't seem to get these American Girls dialed in.
Result: 2.3 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
Well, at least it won't make a billion dollars worldwide. Only three-quarters of a billion. Somehow, that's reason to rejoice. See you next Thursday when I'll be predicting Dark Knight to shatter every record in existence.
Result: 2.2 million (My rank: #10, $0.1m off)
