I'm going through a lot over here. My hair is falling out, I'm now biting my nails, and I'm wondering if movies are now conspiring against me. I lose every coin flip; every close call goes the other way. This weekend was no different, read on for the casualty report.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Gimme a Break.
I try not to hold a grudge against films that screw me over but I can't help it. The Messengers and I are now sworn enemies. The good news for them is they've already made their budget back. I'm not a very strong enemy evidently.
Result: $14.5 million (My rank: #2, $4.8m off)
Diane Keaton has her way with me one more time for all the fans out there. That's what I get for liking The Family Stone.
Result: $13.0 million (My rank: #1, $2.3m off)
Right now The Breakfast Club is on Comedy Central. They must have shown this one million times in the past decade. Always edited though. C'mon Comedy Central, grow a pair.
Result: $8.2 million (My rank: #3, $.3m off)
No one is talking about Dick Van Dyke's performance here but it's just as good as any of the Babel girls. Except Rinko. I liked her.
Result: $6.7 million (My rank: #5, $1.7m off)
One misleading thing; they never actually play cards. As the film was about trying to kill a guy named Buddy I would have called it Killin' Buddy. More honest, more effective.
Result: $6.3 million (My rank: #4, $1.7m off)
Oh, it's been stomped. $56m worth of stomp on a $13m budget. Steak dinners all around.
Result: $4.2 million (My rank: #6, $.4m off)
Dreamgirls will make $100m but it took nine weeks to do it. It will do well on DVD though as a date night rental so despite not getting nominated for Best Picture you'd still have to call this a rousing success.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #9, $.8m off)
Pan's actually had the highest dollars per theatre among the holdovers. The problem is unless it strikes Oscar it won't be going wider.
Result: $3.6 million (My rank: #8, $.2m off)
Will and Jada are still together unlike almost every other couple in Hollywood. Thus, I am in favor of them winning couple of the year.
Result: $3.1 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
Oh so close to actually getting one completely right. Had that happened I would have been very tempted to simply retire like Barry Sanders.
Result: $2.7 million (My rank: #10, $.1m off)
