Bad movies profit in a big way!

I’m on top again and flying high! All I needed was for February’s awfulness to bail me out. Also, good news everyone, next February RopeofSilicon will be launching our first movie project. It’s called “YOU BUY TICKET!” and we expect a big turnout. Right now it’s about a person who runs into walls a lot but the plot develops a little every day.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Two Weeks In A Row
I again claim complete victory as that $15m variance represents two million people I thought were brighter. I’m glad I wasn’t aware of two million people who wanted bad plot. In fairness, I might have seen this too on my own, but now you guys owe it to your fellow man to dissuade them against this piece.
Result: $44.5 million (My rank: #1, $15.1m off)
Geez, this was a big time box office weekend. The family dollar struck back and launched Bridge all the way up to about half of Ghostey. Just did the math and this was the biggest weekend of 2007, so there ya go.
Result: $22.0 million (My rank: #3, $6.0m off)
A 50 percent drop means that some people actually recommended this one. If you know those people you’ll have to turn them in when the revolution comes. Sorry, not my rules.
Result: $16.8 million (My rank: #4, $1.3m off)
Where were the people who wanted to see some comedy? Or romance? I guess I just don’t get how you rom-com fans work. Or if you even do. Maybe people took B-Luv’s perception over my review of the movie. People, he hasn’t even seen it!
Result: $14.0 million (My rank: #2, $9.2m off)
This was a decent projection, a variance in the teens percentage in considered strong. The “Tyler Perry” thing is a nice show of ego, well played there.
Result: $12.1 million (My rank: #5, $2.6m off)
It wasn’t a good movie and it wasn’t in many theatres. That’s a deadly combination.
Result: $10.3 million (My rank: #6, $2.9m off)
From $13m to $5.4 is a beating. That means most of the people who saw it week one told others to stop, drop, and roll away from it like it was fire. Even worse for Hannibal was that people listened.
Result: $5.4 million (My rank: #7, $1.8m off)
I was so close to a “bingo”. That’s what I’m calling nailing the right rank and dollar amount these days. It’s also the term for using all your letters on one try in Scrabble.
Result: $4.9 million (My rank: #8, $.1m off)
Not much to talk about here short of neither this one nor Hannibal performing well. Clearly people are horrified enough by Norbit and Ghost Rider.
Result: $3.8 million (My rank: #10, $.5m off)
The last weekend this one will be around. Final tally: Nine weeks, $237 million. That’s about $130m more than I would have predicted initially. This will easily be the most profitable and forgettable movie of the year.
Result: $3.7 million (My rank: #9, $.5m off)
