Box-Office Wrap-Up: Apr. 11 – Apr. 13, 2008

Wow, that's waaaaaay off. Prom Night cleared over $8k per theater which is pretty impressive. Now, I'm willing to eat crow for being so off; but I again think this is a case of nothing else being out so an average looking PG-13 thriller benefited. In two weeks you won't be able to get away with this sort of thing anymore.

Result: 22.7 million (My rank: #2, $8.8m off)

After I published Oracle on Thursday new theater counts came down – costing me 300 theaters because Prom Night ended up having way more than Street Kings. I'm not blaming that… I'm just saying good information is hard to find these days.

Result: 12.0 million (My rank: #1, $3.0m off)

Back on track! If it weren't for those pesky top two movie slots I'd be really good at this. Perhaps I will start predicting only #3 through #10.

Result: 11.0 million (My rank: #3, $2.8m off)

Another solid pull. With only a 32% drop this is another prime example of the "well, we have to see something phenomenon.

Result: 9.0 million (My rank: #4, $1.3m off)

Did I predict EXACTLY a 51% drop? Yes. Yes, I did. Thank you very much. Hold your applause until the end.

Result: 6.2 million (My rank: #5, $0m off)

Horton only dropped 34% and is up to $230m worldwide. Seuss should have stayed alive longer to cash in!

Result: 6.0 million (My rank: #6, $1.3m off)

I'm decent at the indie releases too it seems. Calling this 7th and only being off $53 per theater feels impressive to me.

For the record I was $6.2m off TOTAL on the box office slots three through ten. Hot damn. I may go into consulting.

Here's the second dead on pick of the weekend. Boom! That's the first time I've ever done that too. If only I'd taken Prom Night to win. I'd be popping champagne and retiring whilst I was on top.

Result: 3.1 million (My rank: #9, $0m off)

For the record I had Tyler Perry 11th and 10,000 B.C 12th so that would have been ten in a row correct. Just not the ten I was shooting for.
