Box-Office Oracle: May. 2 – May. 4, 2008
Iron Man will win the weekend by like $72m or so, give or take.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 1 Week in a Row
1. Iron Man
Big number, right? I've seen projections as high as $100m out there though. I'm pretty bullish, but I think the lack of over 50 year old dollars will hurt it a few percentage points. I'm also guessing this will be the biggest percentage difference between the one and two slots ever. It's the perfect recipe given the weak competition.
Estimate: $85.2 million
Runner up! The number two movie in America! Eeeps. This one isn't very good and deserves the beating Iron Man is about to lay upon it.
Estimate: $13.5 million
3. Baby Mama
I'm calling a 53% drop here. There's not much more to say about this one.
Estimate: $8.2 million
The Exec producer of People Magazine called this to win last weekend instead of Baby Mama – that's why he gets paid the big bucks. Also, he was wrong.
Estimate: $6.9 million
One of my dear friends though the title to this was "F** Sarah Marshall." Wild, right? Now I sort of wish they had named it that.
Estimate: $6.1 million
Let's get back to Iron Man. I want to see the sequel. Not as much as I want to see Dark Knight but way more than I want to see Love Guru or Zohan. I also hope they fix that Pepper Potts character.
Estimate: $5.5 million
7. Nim's Island
It's amazing to me that this is still in theaters. Have you met or heard of anyone anywhere who has seen this? It's like sasquatch and UFOs. You know they exist but you've never been on one.
Estimate: $3.1 million
8. 21
Another musical tip for ya: Saul Williams. His song from 2004 is in the Nike cross-training commercials, it's called "Reparations." Very catchy tune.
Estimate: $2.4 million
9. Prom Night
Who wants to tell me where I can find season five of The Wire? I'm not looking for anything illegal, just a safe house where I can watch them on demand with a beer.
Estimate: $2.3 million
This will be eight weeks in a row in the top ten for this particular film. It's at $267m and counting worldwide too. Champagne for everyone over at the Seuss mansion.
Estimate: $1.6 million
