Box-Office Oracle: Jan. 30 – Feb. 1, 2009
COMMENTS
Taken will win, but nobody will be at the movies this weekend.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
1. Taken
It's going to be a terrible box office weekend due to the Super Bowl. I think Taken's 3000 theaters will carry the day. Liam can thank his lucky stars that he's opening against a couple of tomato cans.
Estimate: $14.1 million
I can't wait for the sequel! He takes a job as a meter maid. I know, classic, right?
Estimate: $13.4 million
3. Gran Torino
How's about that snubbage of Clint by The Academy? Does it count as a snub anymore? Technically I think they felt they hooked him up already for Million Dollar Baby.
Estimate: $10.8 million
It's ranked 7th amongst all Werewolf movies, but only 17th among Vampire films. All that means is there have been way more Vampire movies.
Estimate: $8.5 million
Yesterday B-Luv and I spent about 30 minutes thinking up sequel titles. The best one I can remember is Uninivted II: RSVP for DEATH. It's probably a lot funnier over IM.
Estimate: $8.0 million
I guess protesters in India are up in arms about the word "dog". What a load of crap that is. In our culture "dog" is the highest form of respect. Don't these people listen to DMX?
Estimate: $7.2 million
8. New in Town
A PG rated comedy with Renee Z. So no, I can't predict good things for this mess.
Estimate: $6.3 million
It's made $43 million so far. For a normal horror that would be pretty good. But does this 3-D stuff drive the budget up? I don't have any way of telling, as they were nice enough not to release a production budget.
Estimate: $4.7 million
10. Inkheart
Button and The Reader will both vie for this spot too. But when the chips are down you've got to go with a guy with ink for a heart.
Estimate: $3.6 million

Does Milk going into 882 theaters even matter at this point?
Anyways whats worse; being uninvited or unborn?
"The Uninvited" has better reviews than "The Unborn." What's more, Roger Ebert gives "The Uninvited" a good review. "The Uninvited" has three actors that have proven their worth (or maybe four; lots of people seem to like Arielle Kebbel, but I don't really know about her) in the past, while "The Unborn" only had Gary Oldman. The trailer for "The Uninvited" looks a lot less tacky and a lot more elegant. So, without seeing either, I'm going to assume that "The Uninvited" is definitely the better of the two.
Oh, and I think "The Uninvited" will get $14-15 million this weekend; horror movies, for some reason, seem to do rather decently on Superbowl weekend. And "New in Town" will definitely do worse than predicted in this oracle. I'm expecting more like $4 million.
haha, loved the Slumdog bit Leremy.
I think that Taken will at least make a good 20 million. Super Bowl fans have gotta do something before the big game, and I bet The Uninvited gets a good 15 million. It has the "Disturbia" meets "The Unborn" feel to it, but one of those was great and the other…need I say more. Teen audineces will fill the theaters this weekend, and Taken and Uninvited will be the victors!

Heh, don't they indeed?
