Box-Office Oracle: Feb. 6 – Feb. 8, 2009
COMMENTS
An easy call at the top - take the rom-com with five big names.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 1 Week in a Row
There is a groundswell building for this product. It's date night, it's women, it's against very little demographic competition. I see it dominating.
Estimate: $33.3 million
Here is where the family dollar is headed. And I think it does a little better than its predecessor because people know what they're getting into now.
Estimate: $23.5 million
3. Push
A February super powers film. Feels a lot like Jumper. And even though Jumper poisoned the well this one still has enough oomph to almost crack $14m.
Estimate: $13.9 million
4. Taken
It will definitely be a dogfight for the bronze medal. But Liam's big win over during Super Bowl weekend probably dooms him here.
Estimate: $12.9 million
5. Coraline
It's a buzzy internet title. Unfortunately, that won't be enough to make it any cash.
Estimate: $9.8 million
Between this and Pink Panther 2 it's a banner weekend for you if you want to see grown men acting like idiots.
Estimate: $8.6 million
Every dollar from here on out is pure profit. Hats off to Fox Searchlight for salvaging this from the remains of Warner Independent.
Estimate: $5.3 million
I see a 53.5% drop. Pretty typical for a horror film in its second go round.
Estimate: $4.8 million
A couple hundred people will see this per theater. Those poor souls.
Estimate: $4.7 million
10. Gran Torino
The fifth weekend in a row in the top ten, a full nine weekends after it was released. They don't make 'em like this one anymore.
Estimate: $4.1 million

I am usually no good at this, but I say Coraline makes more then Push this weekend.
I think Taken will take the third spot… its a great movie, and the word of mouth should give it staying power…
