Bousman Tapped for 'Genetic Opera'
Saw helmer has found a home at Lionsgate
Lionsgate seems especially happy putting their films in the hands of director Darren Bousman who directed Saw II and Saw III for the studio and is now set to direct Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are teaming on the project which is described as a futuristic clone-age fantasy based on an original story by co-composers and screenwriters Terrance Zdunich and Darren Smith.
In the not-so-distant future when an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet, scientists gear for a massive organ harvest. A biotech giant comes up with easy organ payment plans, but all financed organs are subject to legal default, including repossession at the hands of repo men.
Lionsgate signed on to distribute the film after viewing a 12-minute promo reel that Bousman created in half a day. The story resembles very much the way James Wan and Leigh Whannel brought Saw to the studio and that film ended up grossing $400 million worldwide.
