Boston Film Critics Cop-Out and Vote 'WALL-E' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' Best Picture

Aren't we over ties yet? It's called a tiebreaker folks!

The Boston Society of Film Critics have weighed in and show their inability to make a decision by coming up with two ties, one for Best Picture and another for Best Actor. After all, if you give out a tie no one can fault you for snubbing anyone.

The big winner, despite the fact it wasn't voted Best Picture is Milk as it earned Best Actor (Sean Penn), Best Director (Gus van Sant) and Best Screenplay (Dustin Lance Black) honors. At the top are WALL•E and Slumdog Millionaire, both of which went on to earn one more honor each including Best Animated Film for WALL•E and Best Editing for Slumdog.

Tied with Penn for Best Actor is Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, which I believe will be the Oscar showdown and just furthers my belief that ties in this situation are such a waste of time. Sally Hawkins continues a late season run reminding people of her performance in Happy-Go-Lucky with a Best Actress win and at this point I am starting to think she has finally edged into the top five for Best Actress, a category that looks like it will be the most interesting as we head down the line.

Heath Ledger earns another Best Supporting Actor honor for The Dark Knight and Penelope Cruz continues her run to Oscar with another Supporting Actress win for her turn in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

The complete list of winners is listed below.

Best Picture: WALL•E and Slumdog Millionaire (tie)

Best Actor: Sean Penn for Milk and Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler (tie)

Best Actress: Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight

Best Supporting Actress: Penélope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Best Cinematography: Christopher Doyle and Rain Kathy Li for Paranoid Park

Best Foreign-Language Film: Let the Right One In

Best Animated Film: WALL•E

Best Film Editing: Chris Dickens for Slumdog Millionaire

Good to see Let The Right One In getting recognition it deserves.

I think I understand so many peoples' frustration at The Dark Knight, saying it's overrated and such.

I feel that exact same way about Wall-E.

    Tropic Thunder, Best Ensemble Cast?

I don't think that Ben Stiller and Jack Black are good actors. They are just big name comedians who act, just like Will Farell or Adam Sandler.

  4. Chris

Well, that is ridiculous about the ensemble part. I can name a few better ensemble performances from this year than Tropic Thunder's.

  5. Garrett

Nice! Some love for Gus Van Sant!
