Blomkamp has a Friend in Peter Jackson
Talk about sticking with your guy...
As the feature film adaptation of "Halo" fell apart speculation swirled as to whether or not it was primarily due to producer Peter Jackson's unwavering opinion that it should be directed by first time helmer Neill Blomkamp. True or not, the movie isn't being made, but Jackson has always defended Blomkamp's talents and he is now giving him a shot to prove his worth.
Variety is reporting that Blomkamp is set to direct District 9 with Jackson producing through his WingNut Films, based on a script Blomkamp co-wrote with Terri Tatchell.
The pic is a live-action sci-fi feature, but no more details were given with word that plot details would be divulged at the American Film Market later today.
With regards to Blomkamp, Jackson was quoted saying, "For the last year, my team and I have had the pleasure of working very closely with Neill. He has a passion and a command of the language of cinema that will result in District 9 fascinating people all over the world."
Pretty standard shit, but I just have to wonder if this is a forced project for Jackson to take and say, "SEE! Told ya he could direct!" Because what happens if it flops?
