John Adams Part 7: Everybody’s Gotta Die

So last night was the last part of John Adams and frankly it was perfect cap to one of the best things I’ve caught on TV in some time. My favorite scene: Adams chastising the piss out of painter John Trumbull for the inaccuracies of “Declaration of Independence.”

I don’t have much more to say about the mini-series that I haven’t already. Although it looks like a solid few months for HBO with the quite swell looking Recount (which one could is a perfect antithesis to John Adams) and Generation Kill.

Oh and Yes, I did celebrate the end of John Adams with some Samuel Adams brew. For some reason I bought the summer ale. This was a mistake. Not too good.

Amanda and I slept through last night’s earthquake. I guess several people I know did not. We’re heavy sleepers I guess. But an earthquake in the midwest. WTF? I guess the midwest is supposedly on some kind of fault line that is thought will produce 10.0 some day in the future–at least so I’ve heard, I honestly haven’t read any press about today’s earthquake. I’m sure that’d actually learn me up on the subject.

Special Ed School Musical

High school Musical

Amanda and I just watched High School Musical. And now…I’m gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just something I didn’t expect to be when today ended, that’s all.

I’m finished…with loving women.

Rick MorFATtis

So I couldn’t take it any more and shaved last night. I should have trimmed up 1st. Took some time to do it. But that’s the longest I’ve gone without shaving since high school. So that meant no Judd Apatow costume for work. So I went as…. Rick Moranis—or more like someone who ate Rick Moranis. Or maybe a fat Woody Allen. Wish my hair was longer so I could have made it wild, Ghostbusters style. But what are you going to do? If you look closely by clicking the thumbnail, you can see Moranis as my badge pic and name. Oh and from the looks of my cube, you’d think my real job actually has something to do with the film industry. HAHAHAHA!!

A Bag of Random Vomit

So, I finally finished the X-Files 2 set visit piece. Yay. The bastard went through so many variations and outlines (half in my mind/half in actual writing)–and then I ended up cutting it in half and rewriting a majority of it over the weekend–I’m beyond relieved it’s going live tomorrow. I probably spent more time worrying about it than it deserved. But it was my first time writing something like that for ROS and I wanted to nail it–and I wanted to exorcise my long disappointment with the slob-knob thing I wrote for my visit to Skywalker Ranch years ago. Plus when it comes to writing I’m competitive as hell and wanted to write something that at the very least would be different than any other outlet’s take on the day. Tomorrow I guess I’ll know if I succeeded.

Although it’s not quite over. There might be a set visit 1.5 since we are still embargoed on the scene we watched.

So at work we’re having this silly “Spirit Week.” Where yesterday was bad hair day. Today was slippers day. And etc. Well Thursday is dress as a celeb day. And since I haven’t shaved in about 3 weeks, I’m going as Judd Apatow, which NO ONE will get.

Strangely in the picture above, I look much better (younger) than normal. Plus my scruffiness looks less than what it really is. But today someone took a picture of me at work, and it was a scary resemblance.

Did you know Jack Handey from “Deep Thoughts” on SNL in the ’90s is a real guy? I didn’t.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/books/04/15/books.jack.handey.ap/index.html

I’m picking up his latest book, What I’d Say to the Martians and Other Veiled Threats, just for this line alone in which a narrator of a story raves to his martian abductors, “So are we so different? Of course, we are, and you will be even more different if I ever finish my homemade flame thrower.” Made me giggle for an hour. This is my kind of humor. I can’t believe I’ve been ignorant of this guy’s existence for the last 15 years.

“No Mr. Hamilton, I question your sanity!” John Adams VI

Part 6 of John Adams

Well if Part 6 of John Adams doesn’t garner Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti every television award created then I don’t know what will. Lots of emotional wattage for them to channel into. And just an overall excellent character study. In fact, that’s what’s amazed me most about this series: the increasingly complex character study it has become. Also loved the unceremonial ending with Adams leaving the White House. Pitch perfect. One thing I have noticed though regarding Adams’ decaying teeth: Doesn’t he sort of remind you of evil Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings? Look.
