I am not claiming to be clairvoyant, but I just think this proposed bailout is simply putting a band-aid on a broken leg and think it is a horrible idea. Will it work? Sure, but only for a short time. It's like a long term heroin hit. Things are going to be warm and fuzzy for a little while, but an addict always comes down off a high, especially when it is paid for and you can believe they are going to come back for more.
I see a day in the future where someone voting "No" on tonight's bailout proposal will be able to run for President saying so. That is, if it passes.
As I am sure anyone who happens by my blog regularly already knows, I am an Obama supporter and upset he can't vote against this bill. Neither he or McCain can vote against it because it would appear as if they were turning their backs on the people. It's a shame, just when we have something as important as the Presidential election it can't be used for good, instead it has to be used to follow the good ol' boy track.
One thing I don't like is Obama's claim to stay calm and once it is passed and he is President he will take a look at it and get it right. Screw that, get it right now!
McCain caused a problem by bringing Presidential politics into it because there was nothing he could really do that would help his campaign, it would only slow down and hinder the process. He realized this and that is why he went back on his word and went to the debate, then again his attempt to sabotage the debate was in hopes of delaying it one week and booting the VP debate. Fortunately we get to watch that train wreck tomorrow night.
All-in-all, this bailout package is a HUGE deal to everyone involved. Both McCain and Obama have to look as if they are doing something to benefit the country no matter what it is and the only political gain either will attempt to grab is a "who did it first?" and "what party gets the blame and the credit?" Then you have everyone else that is voting and basically setting up their future careers in politics in an upswing or a downward spiral.
Will it pass? Everyone on CNN seems to think so, but I'll be damned if that isn't a serious amount of optimism.
Personally, I hope it doesn't pass. Who are they bailing out? Failed business men? Screw that! I run a small website and am successful, why are the failed folks getting money handed to them? Oh, because they asked for it. Nice. I forgot to send in my application for free money as did every other hard working American apparently.
I saw an article that not only blamed the mortgage brokers, but also the folks getting the mortgages that they couldn't afford. COULDN'T AFFORD! If I am selling something for $100 and you only have $10 to your name I am not going to sell you my something in hopes you somehow wrangle up another $90 in the next week or so. Don't blame the folks trying to get something for cheap, blame the folks trying to sell something expensive that's disguised as cheap. They are the ones that more-or-less conned folks into getting involved.
I recently was going to buy a condo and bailed out of one deal at the last minute. I could have afforded it, but it was going to be tight enough that I decided against it. The way things are now I thank God I bailed because I would be watching my TV now in fear.
Anyway, hope everything is good with all you out there. Let's hope this doesn't get much worse no matter what happens.
Insanity... absolute insanity... Have you seen the latest Katie Couric interview with Sarah Palin? How does anyone have the nerve to defend this?
She blasts Joe Biden for being old, "I've been hearing about his speeches since like the second grade..." then claims it was a compliment.
When asked what newspapers and magazines she regularly reads the answer is as follows:
Palin: I read must of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media...
Couric: What specifically, I'm curious...
Palin: Um, uh [arms flail] all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.
Couric: Can you name any of them?
Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news. Alaska isn't a foreign country where it's kind of suggested, it seems like wow, how could you keep in touch with the rest of what Washington D.C. may be thinking and doing while you live up there in Alaska? Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.
Now, tell me what the hell just happened? Don't believe it happened, watch the full interview for yourself.
This is insane and everyone is trying to point the finger. What is going on? I hope all of you are doing well and this isn't affecting anyone too hard.
Thanks to Hollywood-Elsewhere for the heads up on this gem.
I haven't commented on the debate, but I guess I should for just one second since I spout off about everything else. I was surprised to see so many of the analysts on the news say how great John McCain did in the debate, I personally thought Obama destroyed him at every turn.
Obama definitely had a leg up on the economy and when it came to the war in Iraq, Obama was the only one discussing details while McCain just referenced everyone from Alexander the Great to Ronald Reagan. I don't say this to discount McCain's record, I say this because he is using old shit in comparison to a war that we have never fought before. War on terrorism is a completely new entity, but then again, are we really fighting terrorism?
When McCain says Obama doesn't understand, McCain is actually the one that doesn't understand what Obama is trying to say. Obama wasn't for the surge because he believes we are fighting a war that should never have been waged, and had that been the case there never would have been a need for a surge because there wouldn't have been a war. I know that is hard for McCain and his supporters to understand, but think about it for a second and it should click. Obama wants to use our resources to go after terrorists, not occupy and force US ideals on other countries.
I honestly believe McCain would be truly happy if he was able to blow up any country that didn't agree 100% with the his ideals. That's just not a way to live.
Oh, and did you see this?
All that said, here is a video from 236.com that I found to be quite funny. (Ad blockers off if you want to watch)
Here's are the two opening paragraphs of Roger Ebert's political commentary headlined "Guess who's not coming to dinner":
I do not like you, John McCain. My feeling has nothing to do with issues. It has to do with common courtesy. During the debate, you refused to look Barack Obama in the eye. Indeed, you refused to look at him at all. Even when the two of you shook hands at the start, you used your eyes only to locate his hand, and then gazed past him as you shook it.
Obama is my guy. If you are rude to him, you are rude to me. If you came to dinner at my house and refused to look at or speak with one of my guests, that would be bad manners and I would be offended. Same thing if I went to your house. During the debate, you were America's guest.

I am just about to finish Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series and am damn proud of it and as I am doing so I notice a new commercial for ESPN's Sportscenter features the master of horror.
Mildly comical, but there is no real punchline moment:
Wuh-uh-ow... This woman is an embarrassment...
Can you give us another example? Nope. He's a maverick. Done. Said it. Done.
Specific example? "I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to yah!"
Good Lord!!!! Someone tell me this woman does not actually stand a chance at becoming second in command!
A Future President Will Vote ‘No’ On Bailout Tomorrow
