I am no political expert but I will say tonight's Democratic debate was one hell of an event. Obama came out struggling with his points as health care took the stage front and center. Hillary has been pushing for the same plan for something like 15 years and I think that really helped her get her point across in a much more fluid and easy to understand way. I personally think Hillary dominated the opening rounds of the debate, but once we got beyond health care I think Obama came out ahead.
Hillary's best quote was when she was asked a rather tough question (I thought) why we should put a Clinton back in office when we have had decades of the Bush and Clinton families in the White House. She said, "It did take a Clinton to clean up after the first Bush and I think it might take another one to clean up after the second Bush." The place erupted.
The Obama quote that I loved and really smacks down any argument citing progress in Iraq was when they approached him with the idea that things are improving and fewer U.S. soldiers are dying. On the idea we are succeeding based on that analysis he said "we have set the bar so low, it's buried in the sand at this point." Killer comment and further proof that Obama would dominate the Republicans on the issue of Iraq and this really is pushing his agenda of being right from the start and having better judgment.
I will admit one thing though, Hillary grew on me tonight. She didn't seem to be the evil shrew she has appeared to be up to this point. She seemed level headed, even if she struggled on a few later points.
Probably the most noticeable thing tonight was the good natured conversation that went on. It was as if both candidates decided to say, "Screw it, we don't want a Republican to win. Let's be cordial and talk about the issues and put the personal trash aside." After all, these two are very similar on a lot of points and by putting the politics of it all behind benefits them both.
Did either one win? Hillary dominated the opening like I said, but I think the lasting impression of the Iraq conversation outweighs the discussion of health care giving Obama a slight (miniscule) edge. I think Obama needed a bigger win than he got tonight, but polls show him closing. He has to hope his stock continues to rise and Hillary's stays the same.
The final question on whether they would consider an Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket didn't hit with a thud as I think it would have a week ago. Today it all seemed possible.
Kansas State beat Kansas last night handing Kansas its first loss of the season and it is the first time Kansas State has beaten Kansas on K. State's home court in 24 years. Keep your eye on them and make sure you get to know Michael Beasley before he goes to the pros next year but will he be the #1 pick over Indiana's Eric Gordon?
You know things are bad when Jay Leno has to resort to YouTube for jokes during his opening monologue. Last night while on the treadmill I look up and notice Jay featuring a YouTube video to get laughs. I'll admit this video of a webcam girl getting buried by her closet is funny (and not really safe for work), but this writers' strike is hitting folks hard.
Click the link to watch the video as I try to make sure not so many videos are on the main page.
Nope, not lying about this, Craigslist actually has a posting for a Vagina Couch. I placed the image click below to check out an image and there are more at the link above.
Quickly becoming a favorite visit for me is 236.com which has just posted a rather funny, yet informative, article concerning Heath Ledger's masseuse, Diane Lee Wolozin, who's not licensed in New York. Conspiracy theories are bubbling up that Wolozin may have disposed of Ledger's alleged drugs before the EMT's arrived. Also disheartening is the fact that before she called 911 she called Mary-Kate Olsen three times, considering Ledger's body was still warm when the paramedics showed up this causes quite a stir.
With the recent broo-ha-ha surrounding the supposed Ledger drug video, which from what I can tell never shows Ledger actually doing drugs outside of saying he "used" to smoke a lot of weed, I am not sure what to think anymore. I will say things sound a little shady.
236 has some spoof NYC Incident Reports if you want to check them out right here.
Well, that's it, you can call it off Hillary... Hulk Hogan has spoken and the millions upon millions of Hulkamaniacs around the United States will now be voting Barack Obama come Super Tuesday. And as a reminder of who we are talking about I give you the March 29, 1987 Wrestlemania 3 match between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant.
Oh, and if you didn't see Bill Clinton take on a 9/11 conspiracy theory believer then do so right now. (ha, raaaaaaaaaandom...)
These are the two heated discussions between McCain and Romney. Personally I don't think there was a lot of debating going on tonight outside of the few times they actually let all four candidates speak most notably on the budget and Huckabee's interesting idea to build roads. Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea, but not an immediate solution. Then again, neither is Bush's idea to give people some extra spending money of which they are either going to waste on silliness or save, neither option helps the economy.
Now for the videos. The first one involves Romney's criticism of McCain as too liberal. If you are looking for the "greasy moment" by Romney just wait until he says McCain was endorsed by the New York Times and then turns to McCain with a big shit eating grin on his face. How embarrassing.
The second video is the squabble between McCain and Romney over the allegations that McCain lied about Romney's statements that he was for timetables to get the troops out of Iraq (begins at 2:40). Even more important to Romney was that McCain did it only three days before the election in Florida giving Romney not enough time to prove the item false.
The thing I take away from the second video is when Anderson reads the entire quote giving it a vastly different meaning than when it is broken into pieces. Either way, it isn't something they should be discussing in as much as it is just dirty politics on McCain's part to bring it up.
Finally, if you want to hear what Ron Paul had to say you can see all eight times he spoke right here.
