Activists in Vermont Want Bush and Cheney Arrested

I have to say, this is one way of ensuring the Bush Administration will not be visiting Vermont any time soon as CNN has an article up saying how activists in Vermont want Bush and Cheney arrested for war crimes.

A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.

"This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they're supposed to do," said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.

Radical? Yeah. Likely? No.

Don’t Date Him Girl

ddhg.jpg

You may want to check and see if your name shows up on Don'tDateHimGirl.com. Some scorned chick could be saying you have AIDS, herpes or even an alleged abuser. Luckily for the ladies posting the information you don't even need proof, just a picture, a name and bad things to say.

What do you wash your body with?

I am pretty much in the middle of reading Alan Weisman's "The World Without Us", which quite simply looks at what would happen to the world if humans no longer existed. Well, to figure that you you have to look at past and current conditions. I am currently reading a chapter primarily dedicated to plastics.

I used the headline above because one paragraph goes on to mention how so many of the body scrubs people use include exfoliant beads that actually are nothing more than plastic, which is ultimately washed right down the drain. You may think this isn't a big deal, but what if that little bead is ultimately eaten by a small sea creature? The chapter also mentions that sooner or later there will be so much plastic in our natural bodies of water that the potential for granules to be small enough for the likes of krill and plankton to eat them will be likely.

Not a good situation folks.

I am hardly an environmentalist, but if you are using a body scrub that includes the word "polyethlene" in the ingredients I kindly ask you to reconsider and perhaps pick up St. Ives Apricot Scrub which instead of plastic uses chunks of ground-up jojoba seeds and walnut shells. It only makes sense.

NFL Wises Up

Gotta like how the NFL wised up and everyone will now be able to see the Pats vs. Giants this weekend:

The Saturday night game in which the New England Patriots will be trying to set an NFL record by finishing the regular season with an undefeated record will be simulcast on CBS and NBC, the NFL has just announced.

Originally the 8:15 p.m. game against the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J., was scheduled to be carried only on the NFL Network. Because of a dispute with Time Warner and Comcast, that network is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes that have televisions.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a written statement. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

I Wish People Who Said They Were Open Minded Were Actually Open Minded

So, a fella named Brandon commented on a random blog post of mine with this statement in reaction to my Golden Compass article (read that here). Here is what he said:

The reason why you do not understand the Christian response to the Golden Compass is because you choose not to understand both sides--it makes for an easier explanation to group Christians as "close-minded" or "reactionary." My wife has a doctoral degree from Emory and went to Yale and came away from both institutions with an understanding of how hateful and close-minded academics can be. The Golden Compass series (allow me to call it that) is completely blasphemous. Doesn't matter how the studios water-down the movie, don't you get it that Christians WILL NOT support those who claim they want to "kill God?" So the movie is okay and watered down--great--so what's your point?? We don't open our wallets to the likes of the author. The fact the books aren't such great fantasy writing. Most of the critics who claim that it is aren't Christian. So anything that resembles a response to C. S. Lewis or Tolkeinn is a welcome to them. Why don't you read my wife's blog and see what you think. She is an open-minded, extremely intelligent, Ivy-Leage Christian, which much better insight than your blog--she actually read the books!

So I take a little trip to his wife's "open-minded blog" where SHE ACTUALLY READ THE BOOKS! (here that is) She has two little articles about the three books in the "His Dark Materials" franchise. The first one covers her hatred for the author and the second one expands slightly on that hatred all while saying she is open minded and even if she wasn't Christian she wouldn't like it... She says this after comparing him to a child molester, hating on gays and saying she wanted to read the series about as badly as getting a filling with no novocaine. Yeah, she seems like someone that is capable of looking at something like this objectively. By the way, what is wrong with a gay angel? I can only assume they would wear their wings well.

It is so funny to me how mad religious groups get at something that doesn't and shouldn't change the way they live their lives at all. They use the argument that since someone is attacking their church they must defend it. Really? Is your church so weak that it can't survive if people listen to opposing views and make up their own mind? So you think the books are blasphemous. Good, now you have your opinion and others have theirs, let's coexist and discuss without calling each other child molesters.

After all, Pullman has said in interviews that it isn't that he doesn't necessarily hate God or think God doesn't exist, he just doesn't believe in a close-minded God, a God that doesn't support free-will. I also like how Brandon asked me what my point was... Perhaps he should go back and re-read my three page article. He also tells me I choose not to understand both sides... Oh, I understand, I understand that religious groups think their religions should be shielded from any and all criticism and any opposing view is automatically wrong and should never be heard and if it is it should be (if I am to take Brandon's wife's articles to heart) compared to child molesters (sorry for using that so many times, it just really bothered me).

I will pray for you Brandon and your wife... Hopefully you will one day learn to see other people's side of the story and even if you disagree allow for them to have their opinion because it isn't like they are telling you you can't have yours.

The “Not So” Perfect Ass

This will be featured in tomorrow's Gossip Sheet, but I just had to get it up now for the few of you that actually read this blog. Watch this news report as the anchor can barely contain himself as he reports on a woman upset about her ass implants.

The Ravens Get Robbed as the NFL Wants the Patriots to have a Perfect Season

Please tell me I am not the only one that thinks the Ravens got robbed tonight. First off the pass interference call in the end zone was bullshit and then that catch in the end zone was clearly being bobbled as Jabar Gaffney went out of bounds.

The NFL and their bullshit NFL Network are only looking for a way to make sure the Pats are still undefeated come Saturday, December 29th when the final game of the Patriots regular season will be exclusive to the NFL Network as they play at the NY Giants.

You know as the ref was "reviewing" that final touchdown there was someone in his ear going, "You better keep it as a TD or you will be killed!"

I am all for seeing an undefeated season. Hell, I have had Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods in my lifetime, an undefeated NFL team would fit in quite nicely.
