'Beverly Hills Cop' Reboot Set for 2016 Release, Eddie Murphy Returning

Reboot, sequel... who cares?

Beverly Hills Cop 4Paramount is officially moving forward on a reboot (if you can call it that) of Beverly Hills Cop with Brett Ratner, who directed Murphy in 2011's Tower Heist, set to direct and Eddie Murphy returning as Detroit police officer, Axel Foley. How can a film be a "reboot" if the star of the first three is returning? Doesn't that just make it Beverly Hills Cop 4?

Nevertheless, the film is scheduled for a March 25, 2016 release date with a script from Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol scribes Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. At this time this is the only film scheduled on that date as each weekend in March now has a film slotted.

Quoted by THR, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, "We're going to take Eddie [Murphy] back to Detroit... He's going to be in Beverly Hills ... so we're going to have some fun with him." Whatever that means.

What I learned from this: Jerry Bruckheimer has no grasp on geography.

    • RBBrittain

We already knew Eddie Murphy has no grasp on reality (example: Norbit, which almost certainly cost him an Oscar for Dreamgirls).

or putting words together to form a cohesive sentence.

Exactly, I couldn't even figure out how to make a joke about it that quote was so confusing.

Jesus, 2016 is going to have the sequels. I still can't believe they are making a sequel to both this and Independence Day that year and also remaking Ben-Hur. Boogles the mind

Also, everyone is having a fit about Man of Steel 2 and Captain 3 being released on the same day. What about Alice in Wonderland 2 and X-Men: Apocalypse Now?

    • andyluvsfilms

I'll still be surprised if MoS and Cap open on the same day, it's not like these studios to take unnecessary risks.

Much like the original Robocop, Beverly Hills Cop was an amazing film that exploded onto the scene quickly followed by two very poor sequels, I suspect the fourth installment in the BHC franchise to be very neat and tidy and carry a PG-13 rating #GetTheHeckOuttaHere

I remember the time as 'Evil Dead' got an R rating as 'THE Evil Dead' got an NC-17.

I think I can file this under 'will never matter' since I still haven't ever seen the 1994 one and never thought the first two were anything special either. It is funny though how at least just now 2015 has a bunch of films on the blockbuster front I'm at least interested in to various degrees but so far all 2016 has that interests me is 'Cap 3'.

Ah another attempt to try to make Eddie Murphy relevant again.. Seems to happen every few years. I think it's time to accept his time was in the past.

Look for another Murphy Reboot in next years Twins sequel, Triplets.

And don't forget about Quadruplets or Norbit 2 *gag*

        • andyluvsfilms

          That's bad advice.

    Ratner's still getting directing jobs?

  • Jman917

All I can say is that if they make this film PG-13 I will not be watching this movie & Eddie Murphy will just be in the dumps

    • Esteban J. Hernandez

Wow. I ought falling in love with the NC-17 rating after the greedy MPAA who make hilarious and stupid film-rating descriptions treated Sam Raimi as dog-turd.

"Eddie Murphy will just be in the dumps." Yeah, that explains as why as Bruce Willis went as downhill, being as like "Forget it! I don't need these fans! They always nag as they show disrespect to me! They show it as they ask: 'How many Die Softs of Bruce Willis has to make?'!"

      • Bazellis

I literally have no idea what point you're trying to make???

        • Esteban J. Hernandez

Pal, answer as what makes no sense. I made a theory as why as Bruce Willis transformed his own self as a hack. The rhetorical question involving Bruce Willis was as personally seen in the imdb board of 'The Expendables 2' during a reaction to that film being as a PG-13 before as re-edited for an R.

And my point of saying I ought falling in love with the NC-17 rating is as a reaction to these type of people holding a grudge on the R rating as they lack explaining as why as they did not stick to the NC-17 rating.

          • Bazellis

            Nope, still no idea.

            • Esteban J. Hernandez

But, like I said, answer as what makes no sense.
