Better Look at Jamie Foxx as Electro in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'

A reader sent me an interesting comment on Twitter yesterday after I posted that Entertainment Weekly cover featuring a first look at Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, saying, "Bottom line: no one wants this film, including me, but everyone will see it, including me." It's an interesting sentiment and he's obviously speaking in generalities so don't get too upset as there certainly are people that enjoyed the 2012 reboot just as much as there are people like me saying, "Damn, that actually came out last year?" Seriously, doesn't it seem like it has been at least two years since it was released?

As much as many of us will complain about the haste with which Sony rebooted the franchise and even director Marc Webb as said retelling the origin story was "brutal" and yet The Amazing Spider-Man made over $752 million worldwide. Granted, that's $31 million less than the worst performing film in Sam Raimi's original trilogy (which is oddly Spider-Man 2, which is largely considered the best of the three), but it's still a heap of cash.

That said, promotion on the new Spider-Man 2 is about to hit full steam ahead once Comic Con rears its ugly face next week and Sony has released a couple of higher resolution looks at the film's lead protagonist and antagonist. Check 'em out below.

Does the prospect of a Spider-Man film that appears to have nothing but new villains we have yet to see and a storyline that will likely deviate from anything we saw in Raimi's films give you hope? How about the cast which not only includes Foxx and Andrew Garfield, but new members such as Paul Giamatti and Dane DeHaan along with a returning Emma Stone.

Let me know in the comments below.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

my first impression every Electro poster released so far have not been great, i haven't seen this much snarling since Grace Jones was big in the 80's. Also, haven't we seen this kind of villian before in Iron Man 2? its a rental

  • Austin Gorski

Personally, I think Jamie Foxx looks awesome as Electro. Hopefully this is better than its sub-par predecessor.

  • Ryguy815

Excited for this. I think it could be great and the best Spider-Man yet!

    • andyluvsfilms

is that "yet" or "evar"? ;-)

The real story should be that after almost a decade of Spider-Man films they FINALLY got Spidey's costume looking right!

Electro looks okay. I think when he's on-screen with the animated post fx (I'm assuming the electricity in his face/skull will be moving along his face and such), he might look better. Time will tell.

And yeah, not really looking forward to this one, but I will likely see it. Why? Because I like my superheroes and I'll support the films they're in.

I agree, that's the best looking Spider-man suit they've done yet.

    • Newbourne

I think the suit looks almost identical to the last one. The only notable difference is the red belt-like sash around his waist. I also think there is less blue in the glove-area. Other than that, I'm not noticing any drastic change.

Grab a side-by-side. It's quite different. They nailed it this time. The symbol's different. The texture. The eyes. A lot of minor things that make it a bullseye.

  • Adu

I have a feeling Jamie Foxx will do an awesome job playing Electro.

    • G-Man

      Same here

  • maja

I think Electro looks terrible but at the end of the day what does it matter how he looks? It's a Spiderman movie and this will make $700m+.

    • andyluvsfilms

and if it doesn't they can just reboot it, i hear Tobey McGuire's available

  • The Movie Guru

I like the look of Electro, but I can't say that I'm really excited for it. First one was decent, nothing spectacular.

  • Xarnis

I think Jamie Foxx can do well in the role, but Electro looks really silly in that picture.

  • Hudsucker

To me Electro looks like a rejected background character for Tron: Legacy

  • Corbin

Why is Spider-Man trying to act gangster? He clearly isn't.

  • Ducard

I was shocked (no pun untended) by how much I like the last Spidey film. I not sure about the look of Electro here, but I didn't intially like Ledger's look as The Joker (& we all know how that turned out).
Giamatti's casting as Rhino has gotten the most of my hopes up for this film.

  • Chris Etrata

Still looks like Mr Freeze from batman and robin.

  • G-Man

What is the mini iPhone on the side of his head?

  • Aditya

still feeling quite eh about this movie and these pictures do nothing to increase my interest level

  • Alexander Meatlog

    Electric Ray Charles
