The Clock Strikes 'Before Midnight' Today

I catch up with Celine and Jesse today

Today's a big day for me, I'm seeing Before Midnight -- my most anticipated film of 2013 -- this afternoon and I couldn't be anymore excited. Of course, excitement of this kind always runs the risk of leading to a letdown, but I can't let the fear of disappointed quell my anticipation.

I recently re-watched Before Sunrise and Before Sunset in preparation for a feature I will be running in May and I will be adding Before Midnight to that very same, three-day feature should everything work as planned.

The film hits theaters on May 24 and sees the return of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke as Celine and Jesse, nine years after their last rendezvous in Paris. Almost two decades have passed since their first encounter on a train bound for Vienna, and we now find them in their early forties in Greece. Before the clock strikes midnight, we will again become part of their story.

Today I have a new German poster for the film to share (via IMPAwards), which is featured directly below.

I am equally excited and jealous of you Brad. My hope is the film lives up to your lofty expectations because mine are just as lofty. Enjoy I look forward to reading your reactions.

Brad, is the May 24 release date a limited or wide release?

NY, LA... I haven't heard how quickly it will expand, but I would expect faster than most Sony Classics titles. Though I have been told it won't arrive in Seattle until June or July.

Well that's frustrating, but it's good to know it should expand quickly. Though if it takes too long I might have to make the trip to Atlanta to see it. I can't wait.

Oyyy. I am so excited for this one. I hope you slip in some "not a review" comments into the podcast to hold me over until May. I popped in Before Sunset while home sick from work yesterday and was reminded of how incredible those films are. I'm curious to see how this one plays out as it appears the format will be a little different. I kind of wish I would have followed the cardinal rule of not watching the trailer, but I couldn't help it.

Brad, don't worry .. go with an open mind and even with sky-high expectations [as I had], you won't come out disappointed. Before Midnight is just so good.

Are you going to be waiting until the release date gets closer to review it, or can we expect one soon?

Release date (May 24). I'll be in Cannes when it comes out, but I essentially have four days of coverage of the whole trilogy planned for that week.

Stoked, both for the movie and for your multi-day coverage. Enjoy!

Enjoy the film, Brad! I bought Sunset yesterday, and need to order Sunrise so I can start watching them.
