Michael Bay is readying to release Transformers on the world on July 4, but after that he has his eyes set on an adapation of Whitley Strieber's upcoming novel, "2012: The War for Souls," along with writing-producing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The sci-fi project is being set up ant Warner Bros. and reteams the Transformers threesome. The pic would written once Kurtzman and Orci finish their work on Star Trek for J.J. Abrams, which is set to begin lensing this fall in an effort to light the fire under the franchise once again.

Streiber's "2012" story follows an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to stop an apocalypse foreseen by the ancient Mayans. For comparative purposes you should know that his book "The Day After Tomorrow" was the inspiration for the movie of the same name.
