I have no idea how studios choose their release dates, but this week is packed. It's not necessarily a week loaded with quality films, but considering the lackluster weeks recently I have no idea why they wouldn't have waited to unload some of these a couple weeks ago when they could have dominated a weaker marketplace.
Some of the more intriguing titles are catalog selections in my "Even More" selection including individual releases of the Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray and 100th Anniversary Blu-ray releases of Universal's Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Airport and Harvey not to mention season releases of "The Walking Dead", "Homeland" and "Once Upon a Time".
That said, there are a few solid titles among this week's releases and be sure and check out the new release dates as I now have confirmed dates for the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Prometheus, The Amazing Spider-Man and Brave.
Darling Companion is the story of a woman who loves her dog more than her husband. And then her husband loses the dog.
That is a synopsis packed with built-in emotion. Dogs are cute. Why doesn't she love her husband as much as the dog? He's just not tending to her needs. Did the husband lose the dog on purpose? Where is the dog? Now she hates him? He still loves her. Friends help look for the dog. They find the dog. It brings them all closer together. The end.

Boardwalk Empire is really good but I wouldn't but it. I would say the second season was definitely better than the first so I'm hoping the 3rd gets even better.
"The Moth Diaries" does look kind of interesting, and it's on Netflix Streaming now. Might give it a watch later this week.
I enjoyed "Pirates!", probably is the best animated film Ive seen this year, but that isnt much considering the rest were pretty bad (I liked "Madagascar 3" though, that was surprise)
Only listed here is "Headhunters", which is great, it isnt anything new but its a smart and interesting well made thriller that everyone should give at least a chance.
Oh, I almost forgot, "Battleship" is a piece of garbage.
In the last sentence on the "Pirates!" blurb you should have said "Argh!!" instead of "ugh!" haha.
For some reason, you had me laughing out loud!
5YE comes out next week
I don't watch much TV, but "Homeland" was very good. At $24.99 on both Amazon and Best Buy this one is a good deal - bet it helped drive down the price of "Boardwalk Empire", as well.
I also couldn't love Boardwalk Empire on season 1 but I would rent (not buy) seasons of it.
I was interested in The Moth Diaries but who knows when I'll catch it.
I'm rewatching Battleship this week - just to see if it makes me howl in laughter like it did first time round. I'm very optimistic it will.
But I already have Prometheus on preorder.
i believe What to expect... comes out 9/11
Never forget.
It's shaping up to be a nice Christmas on the Blu-ray front:
Boardwalk Empire: Season 2
Prometheus
The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions (15 discs)
Thems the facts
I really liked Boardwalk Empire and recommend it highly. My coworkers at Dish and I went to see The Five Year Engagement when it was in theaters earlier this year. It was funny, but a little immature for my taste. It sounds corny but I’m actually looking forward to Battleship. I just added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue. With Blockbuster @Home the movie is delivered to my door, and there are no late fees. When I’m done, I can drop it off in the mail or take it to my local store and swap it out for another movie. I think after I am done watching Battleship, I really would like to see Boardwalk Empire again.
