You asked for it... you got it...

In case you suffer from short-term memory loss, let me remind you the last time we had a film based on Marvel's Fantastic Four was in 2007. Prior to that you have to go all the way back to 2005! Yeah, intense eh? So considering we have been without the plastic man, invisible woman, fire man and rock guy for upwards of two years now Fox has decided it's time to light the fires under that franchise once again with a reboot.

On the heels of the announcement Disney has purchased Marvel, Variety reports 20th Century Fox has already begun overhauling one of its big Marvel franchises, Fantastic Four, to take the property beyond the two films already made. Michael Green, the co-exec producer of TV's "Heroes" who co-wrote "Green Lantern," will write the script for the new Fantastic Four. Akiva Goldsman is on board to produce and oversee the feature. On top of writing the recently released Angels and Demons and I Am Legend, Goldsman's superhero past includes co-writing Batman Forever and scripting Batman and Robin in 1997. He also served as producer on the Will Smith anti-hero film Hancock in 2008.

This news confirms a report from IESB.net back in March. The site originally wrote the "franchise is looking to be 'less bubble gum' this time around following the Iron Man template."

Considering this is being looked at as a reboot of the franchise, I would expect original director Tim Story and the cast made up of Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis won't be returning.

The first two films grossed over $619 million worldwide but also received horrible reviews from reviewing press.

    Akiva Goldsman will oversee as producer. Not write.

    Pardon me if I'm a little skeptical.

    I'm pretty sure that nobody asked for that. Still, Fox will likely subject us to subpar superhero flicks through eternity in order to keep the rights they have to the characters from reverting back to rival Disney. I'm always surprised by Hollywood's readiness to kill an idea themselves rather than risk seeing a rival studio make money off the same idea.

    As for Goldman, the rumors I've heard say that he can't help but rewrite projects he's invoked with, even when he's not the scriptor.

    Great. Take an already sh*tty film franchise and make it even sh*ttier. Get ready for the Fours on their uniforms to glow with neon.

    Am I the only one that remembers the scene in Batman & Robin where George Clooney and Chris O' Donnel click their boots together and skates come out and they play hockey w/ a precious diamond??? The same guy is going to reinvent an already crappy movie franchise??? Why

    I remember that part, its my favorite………………to laugh at!

    Oh geez. Torn between my disdain (or indifference rather) at the first two (although silver surfer was pretty cool) and the loathing for those two original batman sequels…I gotta say "nay". But I'm open to surprise.

    So marvel has around 5000 characters and they are already recicling existing movies? they should learn from the hulk model,and sometimes obscure unknown characters are succesfull if done right(Blade!).

    I'm looking forward too this. The Fantastic Four has so much potential if it's done right. The first two movies were an abomination. This also the beauty about comic characters. Comic movies I think will be much like Comic Books. Different creative teams can work on different characters. Much like in comic books you'll different writers, artists, inkers, etc. work on different books. The same goes for Comic books. Different Directors, writers, producers, actors on these kind of movies putting forth their take on these iconic characters. We've seen with Batman, Superman, X Men, and the Hulk. For better or worse. But Just like in comic books sometimes you get Brian K. Vaughn and Andy Kubert on your favorite comic or sometimes you get whovever is the equilevlent of Joel Shumacher and Akiva Goldsman in the comic world. (Thankfully Akiva is just producing this Fantastic Four reboot he isn't writing or trying his hand at directing,)

    Geez, I guess Fox is out to destroy what's left of the Fantastic Four before distribution rights go to Disney. I'd love for Marvel to get Brad Bird (The Incredibles) to do Fantastic Four right at the soonest possible moment.

    @Phil: LOL!

    The only reason anybody went to see the first 2 films was because Jessica Alba. It was a beauty contest between her and Chris Evans (I think that is who played "Human Torch"). I hope this time around they do it right. I loved Fantastic Four as a child until that whore "Invisible Woman" left Mr. Incredible
