'Batman 3' Won't be Nolan's Next Flick

Fanboys can get excited over this though...

I am sure fanboys will now be just as blindly excited about director Christopher Nolan's Inception as they are about Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones even though we know nothing about it outside of Variety calling it "a big-scale spec script" along with an added note in the article's teaser saying it is a sci-fi film.

The Hollywood Reporter adds to the discussion saying it is a script Nolan penned himself and he hopes to shoot the sci-fi action film in the summer for a release during summer 2010. THR says Inception is described as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

So, it looks like this will be Nolan's film between Batman features just as The Prestige fell in-between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Hopefully additional information will be available soon.

I think a movie in between Batman flicks will work out quite nicely for him. It'll freshen him up for the next great Batman outing (fingers crossed that he WILL do another Batman movie).

I agree with JM, this will help him freshen up and the additional time will hopefully make him come up with something special. However I will be extremely pissed if doesnt make Batman 3!

I agree, Nolan is smart enough to know that he needs to leave a project alone for a while to do his own project, so he can return with a fresh mind unlike some other directors (Cough Sam Rami cough)

Thank god!! I love this deal Nolan does. The Prestige was amazing and it made me even more psyched for 'The Dark Knight'. Nolan knows what he's doing, batman 3 will happen, but lets just give him a break for a bit from this craziness.

I like Nolan's stuff…but this doesn't sound too good. "Arhaetecture of the mind?" This one has got me worried…

Chris Nolan seems to me to improve with everything he works on. The Prestiege was better than Batman Begins and his growth on that picture led to TKD being as fantastic as it turned out to be (a performance for the ages helped). This should do the same for a potential Batman 3, and he is going to need it to top TDK in the minds of fanboys and general audiences. One thought though, i read somewhere that he likes to do smaller movies between doing BIG expansive projects, This new flick seems very big, does this burn Nolan out? will he after doing this, something original AND big, even want to do a 3rd Batman? I have to say, I'm excited for "Inception" but not for what it potentially means for Batman "3".

As much as the I loved the Nolan Batman films, I think that they've run their course. I can't see him directing the 3rd installment, as I don't think ANYTHING will live up to the hype left after The Dark Knight. If it's not good, it will significantly harm his career, just as The Godfather 3 did with Francis Ford Coppola.

Does anybody remember the confusing as hell prestige? That movie was a bloated piece of shite. And please people, a third great batman movie would propel nolan into holly legend status. Everyone saw the dark knight, but EVERYONE would see batman 3, EVERYONE.

  9. i thought the prestige was a really good movie

@Tim: Confusing? I didn't think it was confusing, I thought it had its slow parts and tended to drag at moments, but I mildly enjoyed it. I think I gave it a B when it came out. I know I never thought it was confusing.

Count me in as one of those who thoroughly enjoyed The Prestige. The script itself plays out like the three acts of a very clever magic trick and that is what gives me thrills each time I watch it. I'd actually go so far as to say that it is Nolan's best work up until now, yes, even better than TDK, but that is just my opinion.

Anyways, back to Inception. I hope that Jonathan Nolan is somehow involved in this project. Memento, Prestige and TDK wouldn't have been nearly as awesome if it weren't for him.

Maybe it was because I was high when I saw it. I'll just found the ending plot twist too obvious. The whole doubles thing makes complete sense. I don't like Scarlett Johansen's acting that much either, I think shes a bit over rated. David Bowie was pretty damn cool though, he did a great job. Yeah, you are right. I'll cave in and stop being such a schmuck. But don't dare say it's his best, probably 3rd best to batman begins and Memento. Memento is obviously his best film. One of the greatest editing ideas in a movie I've ever seen.

Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight – Chris Nolan has quickly become one of the hottest film directors working today; so far, at least, it looks like he can do no wrong. A Sci-Fi film for a change? Well, this good be interesting.

I hope everything works out great for my boy Nolan. Just a quick note to Nolan: please, please, please, announce the Batman Threequel sometime next year.
