Night Cap: 'Avengers 2' in 2015, 'Fast 6' Set Rocks, New Release Dates and 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Want Cookies

COMMENTS

Plus details on almost 35 minutes of 'Prometheus' deleted scenes

The Avengers 2 in May 2015I know most of you have plans, but it's time to change them. On May 1, 2015, Marvel and Disney will release The Avengers 2. I guess the only question now is whether or not it will be shot in IMAX 3D at 48 frames per second, though many are already speculating on the film's potential subtitle from The Infinity Gauntlet to The Revenge of Thanos. Man, the mind reels at the possibilities.

Meanwhile, a logline for the other Marvel superhero team-up, Guardians of the Galaxy, has arrived telling us the film with a crime-fighting talking raccoon will center on a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. I bet that "something" is cookies, because everyone wants cookies. [It's on the Grid]

On top of the release date announcement for The Avengers 2, several other films were either dated or moved around the schedule. The bulk of the films below belong to Universal outside of David Chase's Not Fade Away which will be the centerpiece at the New York Film Festival and moved back a couple months as a result.

Otherwise, Universal moved the Keanu Reeves starrer 47 Ronin once again as the film was actually supposed to hit theaters this year, was moved to early 2013 and now won't come out until Christmas next year. Whatever it takes to get it right I guess.

The Rock tweeted out this picture of he and Gina Carano on the set of Fast and the Furious 6 writing, "'Beast & the Beauty'... Me & my FAST 6 partner in ass kickins (and fun)." The film hits theaters on May 24, 2013. [The Rock]

J.J. Abrams goes out on a limb and tells The Los Angeles Times, "It is preposterous and embarrassing that movies cost what they do." After having made Mission: Impossible III and Star Trek for $150 million each, Abrams made Super 8 for a reported $50 million, but with Star Trek 2 just around the corner it seems like a weird statement to make if you're just continuing to make and produce big budget movies.

Abrams added, "I am as interested in and obsessed with what can be done in the feature world for a price as anyone at any studio. I feel like it is incumbent upon filmmakers today to treat it like their own money." Now this is the more important part, make the movies with the big money, but be mindful of it. One thing I have respected about Abrams is he gives the appearance of not moving forward with a picture until he is 100% confident in it, otherwise we'd already be watching trailers for Trek 2 if not awaiting its Blu-ray release. James Mangold is currently directing The Wolverine and as a result has taken to Twitter to keep fans up to date. Well, one thing he did in the process was cite a few films he "thinks about" as he's making The Wolverine. Here are the tweets:

The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2013.

John Goodman has reportedly been tapped to play a villain role in The Hangover Part III said to be in the same vein as the character Paul Giamatti played in Part II. [Variety]

I am going to hold back and wait for a director's cut of Prometheus...I am sure there will be one down the line. I hate watching deleted scenes, they are not in order and hence out of context from what I have experienced.

  2. The Jackal says:

I simply cannot get enough of Prometheus. With Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), and now, Prometheus, Sir Ridley has certainly put together a very nice sci-fi collection. Let's just hope the Blade Runner & Prometheus sequels are equally impressive and thought-provoking. I can't wait. The deleted scenes mentioned sound really great; I can't wait to dive in.

    Thems the facts

  3. G-Man says:

AMC is going to have a marathon Indiana Jones day on September 15 (non-IMAX), but pretty cool. I still need to see Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and Crystal Skull. Watched Raiders for the first time earlier this year.

Excited about all the extra bonus features of Prometheus. I really want to rewatch this title. Kinda bummed I didn't go a second time when it was in theaters.
