Zach Braff Scrubs In for His Next Directorial Outing

And he's bringing Cameron Diaz along

Zach Braff made a big splash with his directorial debut Garden State in 2004, but since then he hasn't stepped behind the camera for a feature film. However, as his starring run on "Scrubs" is set to end in the just renewed season for ABC after a final six episodes he finds himself another project.

The film is called Swingles and Variety reports Braff is in negotiations to rewrite, direct and co-star in the comedy for Paramount Pictures with Cameron Diaz.

The original draft of the script was penned by Duncan Birmingham and is based on a Duncan Birmingham spec script centering on a bachelor (Braff) who is dumped by his wingman and teams up with a sharp-tongued woman (Diaz) he can't stand in order to meet singles.

While this will mark his second feature directorial outing, he did helm one of the segments of the upcoming ensemble New York, I Love You.

I liked Garden State very much. It was edgy and Zach proved that he can act and not just act up, or ham it up, if you will. Making a movie with Cameron Diaz is a nice move. I just hope it's not a variation on the bromance genre, you know: hijinks, sexual and otherwise, with little to no character development and very little intelligent dialogue. That type of film has its place but it is occupying too much screen time lately.
