Woody Allen's Next Pulls In Naomi Watts
Brolin and Hopkins and now Wattage!

I like Naomi Watts and I was reminded of that while watching The International earlier this year. While that film didn't exactly showcase her talents, she certainly didn't allow the rather blah role get in the way. It was a role she really could have played to the hilt, which would have resulted in an ugly performance and would have been singled out as one had she over-stepped the character's abilities. Instead she reined it in and came out unscathed. I will say I didn't care for her film Funny Games, but she was fine in it, and I thought Peter Jackson really took things too far in trying to humanize King Kong for that role to ever be considered great. However, she was great in Eastern Promises and I unfortunately missed — and still plan on catching one day — The Painted Veil. This all on top of her nominated performance in 21 Grams and her breakout role in David Lynch's Mulholland Dr.. And now, she is moving on to more fun.
Variety reports Watts is set to join Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in Woody Allen's next picture which is currently untitled and without a plotline. All we know is that it is a return to Europe for Allen. The new film shoots in London this summer and reteams the director with financier, Mediapro, the Spain-based company which also funded Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The cast alone is enough to get me excited and I can't wait for Allen's next, but regular readers already know I am just chomping at the bit to see Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood in Allen's Whatever Works which releases on June 19 in NY/LA.
