Will We Learn Why Destro Has a Chrome Dome? Why Snake Eyes Doesn’t Speak?

New details on the 'G.I. Joe' movie surface

Is it possible the upcoming G.I. Joe movie will be any good? I mean the pics of Snake Eyes we saw weren’t that bad although the gun seemed silly in a live-action situation. The casting seems entirely uninspired, but yet I hold out hope. Like Transformers, G.I. Joe toys (and He-Man) were my primary childhood action figures and I loved the “Joe” cartoon and was on pins and needles when the Serpentor animated movie finally aired. However, I still hold on to the fact that a good “Joe” movie can’t be made unless it is really gritty and absent of any and all cartoony behavior and the hiring of Mummy and Van Helsing helmer doesn’t have me encouraged since those two films were pretty much live-action cartoons themselves.

All griping aside, this isn’t about my feelings for the movie to date, but more about something we just learned via Access Hollywood. What do you think about this pull from the article:

The film is reportedly an origins story. It could explain why Destro has a chromed head and why Snake Eyes doesn’t speak, among other outlandish details of “G.I. Joe” that the cartoon never explained.

The article also mentions that somehow, some way, they will incorporate “Now you know, and knowing is half the battle”, the phrase that ended each and every cartoon show with a lesson on morals. I just wonder if the planes in the movie will be shot down but the passengers will eject just before they die too. If Sommers really wants to go for it he could allow this to happen only to have an enemy plan come by and shoot the parachuting pilot. Now that would be so Joe!

I definately agree. In order for this to work keep the humor out of it. I have zero confidence in Sommers. Not to say that I didn’t watch the Mummy Movies and kinda liked the visuals and the cheeky humor by John Hannah was a nice welcome in those. If he does it with Wayans I may actually poke my eyes out so I never accidentally see another one of his films…extreme much…I know but really he’s not that good and the franchise is the sell not his name so he can make it or fuck it up (Don’t fuck it up)

Oh yeah, I actually really like the first two Mummy movies for what they are, dumb action. There are plenty of times when I want to turn my brain off completely and watch a movie like that. However, with G.I. Joe I really think a gritty take on it would have appeased all audiences.

The fans of Joe would have dug it for how dirty and violent it was, and those that aren’t all that familiar with Joe would have just loved it as a special ops kind of film. There aren’t a lot of big budget features like that and with this one already having a built in audience it would have been great.

I still hold out hope for this one though, even though I really don’t see it turning out too good.
