Will Smith's Kid Gets Beat Up and Learns Karate
Hey, that reminds me of a movie from the '80s

I am not sure what I find more comical, the picture to the right, the fact Will Smith's kid (Jaden) is going to star in a Karate Kid remake or the fact the Variety article announcing the casting says The Next Karate Kid "launched the career of Hilary Swank."
First off, the two brown bears in a bit of outdoor karate is quite funny, or perhaps cute is the word. Second, a Karate Kid remake is so uninteresting I can't even begin to fathom how it could be good. The film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities and will be set in there. The story is expected to basically change for Jaden's age (10) but will still center on a bullied youth who learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. No director has been announced, but some guy by the name of Chris Murphy is writing the script and a search on IMDB doesn't help me find out who he is.
Strangely enough, that isn't the most comical part of the story. How Variety's Michael Fleming believes The Next Karate Kid launched Hilary Swank's career is beyond me. I would say Boys Don't Cry got her some recognition due to her Oscar win, but I still don't think she truly saw her career launched until Million Dollar Baby and I have yet to see her capitalize on said "launch." Lord knows The Reaping and Freedom Writers didn't earn her many points.
