I know Scott for many years he tries his best. Wants to get invited to do more coverage so sometimes the critics need to give some leeway, but he tries.

moviepicturefilm looks like one of the most stupid, self-indulgent and amateurish blogs to ever hit the blogsphere in recent memory. Who can trust a website that ran just 6 reviews in 2008? All of those reviews, including his review of The Spirit, are poorly written to say the least. Anyone who trusts a quote or a review from lousy blog from now on can be officially considered as an idiot.

I e-mailed him with the subject line "Are Your Real?" and said "because no critic seemed to like The Spirit but you."

This is what he replied:

Hey Taylor,

Oh yeah, I'm real and I did love The Spirit.

I don't mind being in the minority though- I think the film will be playing midnight shows as other cult classics have like Donnie Darko for example, in a few years. I just think people aren't used to the fact that superhero films can still be outrageous and different like this movie.

i still want to see this, regardless of what everyone's saying. it just looks outrageous & fun. maybe not as heavy as TDK but looks cool enough.

See, you can't oversell it like that. They should have been using pull quotes like, "It wasn't as bad as I was expecting!" "You won't fall asleep!" "The best movie of the year starring Gabriel Macht!" Then people might buy it.

Alternatively, you take the reviews that give it mixed praise and just edit out the bad stuff. So when Mike Goodridge at Screen International says "Frank Miller's first solo effort as a director is an entertaining, if forgettable, cinematic imagining of Will Eisner's classic superhero The Spirit," you advertise it as "an entertaining (insert almost invisible bracketed ellipsis to indicate omission) cinematic imagining of Will Eisner's classic superhero." Ta-da! Not too much, and a real critic said it!
