What is All This Comic Con Business Anyway?

A little insight into the next five days...

You may have noticed the words “Comic Con” popping up quite a bit recently as well as the teaser bar on every single page promoting our coverage, the little box on the homepage beneath the flash rotator and the box to the right promoting our most recent articles from said “Comic Con” and all point to the RopeofSilicon Comic Con 2008 Blog. Well, for those not in the know, Comic Con is an insanely large comic book convention down in San Diego, California that used to play host to hundreds of convention goers, but since Hollywood’s arrival as they bring first look footage, trailers and the stars and directors of their comic book and sci-fi related films to the convention the hundreds have turned into upwards of 125,000 people.

Some may consider Comic Con a geekfest of sorts, but considering The Dark Knight just beat Spider-Man 3 to become the largest weekend box-office opener ever I think it is safe to say there are plenty of people coming around to the idea of comic books and the movies based on them.

This year at the convention myself and David Frank will be blogging on just about as much as we can and I will also maintain as much coverage on the main site as necessary as news breaks, but for the most part you can consider the next five days or so to be solely dedicated to Comic Con events. However, if this doesn’t sound like it is for you let me give you an idea of what we will be covering.

I will be involved in roundtable interviews with the likes of the cast and crew of Twilight along with author Stephenie Meyer as well as interviews with the folks behind the upcoming Watchmen and Terminator Salvation. David will be chatting with the folks behind the likes of Ninja Assassin and The Unborn and that is just an interview teaser.

We will also be covering panels as studios roll out there upcoming big films including what we hope to be new footage from Watchmen, Terminator Salvation, The Spirit, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Unborn, Ninja Assassin, Max Payne, Land of the Lost, Death Race, The Wolfman, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, The Mummy 3, “Heroes”, “Lost” and “24″. I am sure there will be more, but that should be enough to give you a taste.

So stick with us, watch the homepage and certainly bookmark the official RopeofSilicon Comic Con 2008 Blog. It should be fun!
